A closer look at Fast Fortress

After seeing Fast Fortress in a review, it looked like a model that would be great parts even if it didn’t have the traits of a good racer. After finding this mainline and an inspection, it may still be good for parts but in an unexpected way.

Less than expected

I figured the chop shop appeal of Fast Fortress would be the 3-axle design for 3 sets of wheels. You do get all those wheels but they’re not normal wheels. They are smaller, mini-sized wheels, not your standard size 5sp variety. They’re not as small as on GoKart, but they’re smaller than standard tires.

As unexpected as they were, these smaller tires may actually lend themselves to some cool drop front customizing. Instead of needing bigger rear tires, you can use standard sized with these smaller front. Could be neat.

The one place where the Fast Fortress does meet expectations is in the poor race performance. Not only do the numerous wheels keep things bobbing around, the casting is surprising light. When I set it flat on the table, only two of the axles hit the road, making the car rock back and fourth. Even with the extra wheels, I just don’t think there’s enough rubber hitting the road in this case.

If you’re looking for some unique wheels then Fast Fortress will deliver. Just don’t expect a quality race car or anything worth while sitting on top of those wheels.
