The Great Race, vote for week 3

Thursday, October 15th, 2009 by Brian Vaughn

The Great Race continues this weekend with five more racers. Last week saw a new king crowned, will any of Week 3’s cars even come close? Make your picks and discuss!

I’ve seen the Mach I race and it’s pretty speedy, but I’m honestly going to put my chips on the Chevy van. You wouldn’t think a van could move but their wide wheelbase and box shape make it pretty slick. I haven’t seen the ‘53 Chevy drag at all, so it could be a surprise. The Healy fits the mold for a speedster but I’ll have to be convinced. I think the Ferrari will get the short end this time.

What is the possibility that the chin spoiler on the van will have contact with the track at the transition? It looks awful low. Same with the Ferrari.

Good call on the van. I haven’t noticed that the front spoiler does any “damage” in past races. But cars that are low like that do have some issues hitting the track wall joints. Such is the curse of orange track.

I think the Ferrari’s hinged back end harms its performance. They don’t move as fast I would have expected.

What I’ve noticed with my 512M, is that it is dog slow out of the starting gate but seems to make up for it on the flats. My track is 6′ of maybe 15 degree incline and 6′ of flat so not much of a transition.

Nice website! I just heard about it. I’m voting for the Austin Healey.

The Ferrari 512M has PR-5 wheels which I have never found to be competitive.

I would be concerned with the Chevy Van that the front scoop will drag on the track in the transition from the downhill slant to the straightaway.
