Well week 3 of the Great Race just showed how much I know – nothing! And therein lies the fun of the Great Race. What you think will be a fast car because it “looks” fast or has done well in the past, doesn’t mean it will stand up in real competition.
What looked like a fast car, the Austin Healy, was a fast car and ran its way all the way up to the #4 spot in the rankings. My favorite, the Dodge Van, stunk it up and landed mid-list along with the Mustang Mach I. The only predictions that played out in my favor was the Ferrari 512M and the ‘53 Chevy. The ‘53 was a complete unknown to me, but seeing it fall to the very bottom doesn’t really surprise me.

The 512M just had too many moving parts, namely, the hinged rear end. It would shift differently running down the track and it would also settle different when being placed in the starting gate. Just too much extra stuff to worry about there. The Mach I and the ‘53 Chevy were just too skinny. They had too much track bouncing. The Chevy also had some piss poor wheels.
So the few of you that voted for the Austin Healy have a good eye for cars, unlike the rest of us.
