First fantasy league race recap

Sunday, April 11th, 2010 by Brian Vaughn

The first race of the Fantasy League season was an overall success on Sunday. Thirty-one players stepped up and put their picks on the line. Two complete events were held with nearly 100 individual match-ups carried out. Needless to say there were some expected winners but also some surprises.

How did your cars do? Get all the results.

Personally, the biggest surprise for me was seeing the Porsches fly past the competition. There were a lot of Porsche cars in player garages and they all stepped up to the plate. The Carrera and the Ferrari 308 match-up was one of note that saw the Ferrari win. Both of those cars were full-metal builds, so both were heavy entries. The Carrera is also a very wide car compared to other Porshes. It filled the track which makes me wonder if that fact alone possibly held it back.

The FTE match-ups were also telling. We all know that in general FTEs are faster than non-FTE cars, but what about  FTE vs. FTE? The 1967 Pontiac GTO FTE was a poor performer overall, losing 3 out of 4 races…two of which were non-FTE cars.

Land Rover shows its mettle

The treat of the day was seeing the Land Rover MKII breeze by all four if its opponents. The Land Rover was a late addition to the league the past week and the players that snapped it up will not be disappointed. The Land Rover’s biggest surprise in my book is beating the Austin Healy. The Healy is a great little roadster that even beat the Ferrari California. The Land Rover’s weight combined with it’s rear-heavy design looks to be dominant.

Seeing the VW Bug perform was also a nice surprise more so because I had never raced it before. It’s not a favorite car of mine so I never gave it much tought. But that little Bug can smoke!

You can get all the results from both events over in the Fantasy League section.

The game begins now! Today’s races saw a lot of chart moving and now it all gets interesting as players trade-in cars and hedge their bets for next week’s race.
