Hurricane 250 recap, Ferrari shows up

Saturday, April 24th, 2010 by Brian Vaughn

The Hurricane 250 was a great race that saw a high profile match-up between the Land Rover and Porsche 959, both coming into the race undefeated. Ferrari also showed up this week, winning most of its races as well. If you had some prancing ponies in your garage, you probably did pretty well.

RESULTS: Get all the results of the Hurricane 250

The mighty match-up between the Porsche 959 and Land Rover MKII was less of a Super Bowl and more of a scrimmage. The Land Rover swept the Porsche in three straight heats. That’s not to say it wasn’t close…this was one of the closest races ever, just check out the highlights:

But someone had to lose, sorry Porsche. That means the Land Rover remains undefeated and is now tied for the top spot with the 1965 Mustang Fastback FTE. The Fastback also raced today and won, and while the two cars may be tied in the ratings, the Land Rover’s record stands out at 6-0 compared to the Mustang’s 4-0.

An underdog win and a bunch of debuts

The big winner of the day was the Pontiac GTO over the Firebird 400. It was a Pontiac battle that saw a the Firebird lose 18 rating points after a single loss.

Keep your eye on the Tesla Roadster

There were also some debuts thanks to some new players joining this week. The ‘32 Ford Vicky, Tesla Roadster, Corolla FTE and Ferrari F40 all came to race and won their respective races. Just goes to show you can’t underestimate unrated cars when they are added to the league. If you get a runner early on it will deliver results week after week. I think you’ll see the Tesla Roadster march up the ladder quickly.

And lastly, it is worth mentioning that the Batmobile finally won a race. After two losses in past weeks, it edged out the 1964 Continental…however, I’d still suggest leaving the Batmobile on The Lot. On the other end of the “bat” spectrum is the BAT9, which remains without a win after four races. It’s running with the skinny/tiny wheels and that’s just not an advantage.
