Last Fantasy League race of the season

Friday, May 14th, 2010 by Brian Vaughn

The first season of the Redline Derby Racing Fantasy League is nearing an end. This inaugural season has been a lot of fun, but not without its ups and downs. The last race of the season will be Sunday, May 30 for a huge Memorial Weekend Classic. The official end of the season will be Sunday, June 6.

Thanks for your support

First off, let me thank everyone that has been playing in the Fantasy League. It’s been a lot of fun for me and I hope it has for you. But now it’s time to take what I’ve learned and what works, and move on to the next version of the game. If you haven’t yet, stop by the Forums and get the skinny on what’s in store for season two of the League.

We’re going out big

As for finishing up this race season, the Memorial Weekend Classic will be a doozey. We’re changing the conditions just a bit…by switching to a long track. Right now the official RDR track stands at 18-feet long, albeit that 5-feet of that is the downhill. Well, I’m going to cobble together all the orange track I have and move the race outside in efforts to reach 25-feet.

I’m also doubling the win points for the day, so each win will earn you 1,000 points instead of the regular 500. With only two more races before the Classic, it’s time to start thinking about winning strategy. About 4,000 points separate first place from fifth place in the rankings, so with 1,000 point wins it’s possible to catch up quick. But as you know, it all depends on the cars in your garage.

Are your cars ready for the long haul?

Can the Land Rover handle a long track?

Racing on a short track is a lot different than a track 20-feet or more. With a long track it’s less about the drop and more about the drag. I’ll tell you that a lot of the cars that are top racers on the short track probably won’t last on the long track. A long track means you really have to consider stability of wheels and axles. I haven’t done much long track racing, but I would suspect the FTE cars will do well under these conditions.

However, the last race on May 30 is NOT the end of the season. The official end of the season will be the following Sunday on June 6. This extra week will allow players to cash in whatever cars they have left in their garage. Garages will be closed on June 6 and a final leaderboard determined. The player with the most points will be the first champion of the RDR Fantasy League, and their may be a little something in it for the winner.

Hopefully a very short off-season

After June 6 the League site will remain up and open to players and anyone else that happens to come along, but there won’t be any more races until season two starts. When will that be? I’m not quite sure yet. Season two gameplay will be quite different than season one, so I have a lot of web building to do between in June. If all goes to plan, season two will being in early July and wrap up at the end of summer. All those details are still somewhat up in the air.

DISCUSS: Thoughts on ending season one and looking ahead to season two

I want to again thank every person that joined for this first season. Your support for Redline Derby and the League has seriously been overwhelming. Everyone’s passion for the racing, the cars, and the game has kept me motivated to constantly improve the experience…and I think season two will be proof of that.

If you have any questions or concerns about the last race, or if you have thoughts for season two, please head over to the Forums and leave your two cents.
