The first season ends with surprises

The end of inaugural Redline Derby Racing Fantasy League racing season has come to a close, and not without its surprises. The last race of the season upped the stakes and put cars to the test.

The long track is a car killer

I’m relatively new to diecast racing compared to many of Redline members, and most of my experience has been on my home track, a short track under 20-feet. I was amazed by the difference 6-feet can make to cars. The shift from 18-feet to 25-feet had a huge impact on cars.

Players that didn’t adjust their garages for this last long track race were in for some disappointment. Cars that performed well all season on the short track sputtered out over the stretch, and we even saw the proven Land Rover MKII fall for only the second time this season. The Land Rover’s loss lead to a huge dip in its rating, letting the Corvette FTE take the top spot to finish up the season.

The FTEs really shined on the long track, there’s no question there. Several FTE models were added to the league the week before the race, and they were all snatched up quickly and added to garages. If you’re flying on a long track, going FTE is clearly a good choice.

Very little drama

There were very few really close match-ups out of all 60+ races held throughout the day. The Corvette C6 and Ford GT LM had a close battle, along with the ‘09 Ford F-150 and Dodge Challenger. It just goes to show that all cars are not made equal, and all cars are not made to run 25-feet.

But it’s not over yet

The last race was this weekend but the season doesn’t officially end until next Sunday, June 6. So all players can unload the cars in their garage in efforts to get a few more points added to their score. Right now, the difference between first and second place is less than 300 points!
