Fantasy League Guide, race day

Saturday, August 14th, 2010 by Brian Vaughn

The last stage of a Fantasy League tournament really isn’t a stage since it’s just racing. After the cars are entered and bracket picked, the cars are raced on the official Redline Derby Racing track and results are posted.

Getting ready to race

While tournament results aren’t posted until the date shown, I may do the actual racing on any day after the tournament is seeded. It’s hard sitting on the results for any amount of time, but to keep things easy on myself I need to race when I can. However, if you’re anxious for results, I’ve been known to leak hints on Twitter, so if you can’t wait there’s always that.

On race day I do more than just the tournament racing. I’ll race various cars on the track more so to help in adjusting the track. The track is pretty much a permanent fixture in my house, but it does get taken apart sometimes and is probably victim to the hot and cold as well. I want to make sure the track is not a huge factor in car performance. These races need to be car-vs-car, not car-vs-track.

About the track

The official track is 18-feet long made up of orange track segments, so yes, there are track joints. Sorry, I don’t have any seamless orange track. The derby drop is 5-feet long at a 30-degree angle, which is a little less than in the first season. It’s a manual starting gate and mechanical finish line.

The racing process

Each tournament race is one and done. Lane is determined at random when the tournament is seeded. Lane 1 corresponds to the upper car showing in the bracket. There are 15 races to determine a tournament winner. The only exception to the one-race rule is if there is a wreck. If a car flies off the track or crashes the race is a redo.

When race results are posted on the Fantasy League site, points are awarded for bracket picks, car entries, and any achievements. Plus, car ratings will be updated. By default, all players should receive a race summary outlining how you did in each tournament. You have the option to the turn this notification off in your profile settings, but I recommend you keep it on, if for nothing else as a reminder that you’re playing the game.

The winning car of each tournament is retired from the rest of the season and will remain on the shelf until the final championship tournament at the end of the season. This last tournament will be a normal 16-car bracket made up of all the season’s winners. There will be no player car entry for this last tournament, just bracket picking.

Two races each week, have fun

Last but not least, on the days when results are posted, new tournaments usually open for car entry, so keep an eye on your dashboard. And then the whole process starts all over for the next week. Each season consists of 8 weeks of tournament racing. At the end of the 8 weeks, the player with the most points is declared the winner and we move into the next season.

If you have any questions about the tournaments or the league in general, OR if you have any problems using the web site, please post your comments over in the Forum. There I will be able to address any concerns and you’ll also meet the regular racers that can help you out as well.

Happy racing!
