The Great Race

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

The Great Race is our un-scientific test to find the fastest car in our collection. Our collection consists only of mainline Hot Wheels. Our collection is not a “complete” collector’s set and spans several years of personal collecting. There are currently over 300 cars in the collection but just like your collection, it grows often.

We’ll be racing several cars every weekend so check back each week to find out who’s on top. Place your bets now!

The Great Race Rankings

The Process and Rules

Being this is completely unscientific, our test consists of simply racing cars down our official Redline Derby track and recording the results. Our process is as follows:

  • We pick a new car at random and race it against the top ranked car
  • If the new car wins, it becomes the top ranked car. If the new car loses it races the lowest ranked car
  • If the new car wins it continues to race up the list until it loses, thus determining its rank
  • If the new car loses, it becomes the lowest ranking car

Each test consists of five races with each car switching lanes every other race to help eliminate any possibility of lane effects.

Our testing assumes all same-model cars will perform similarly, so we will only test one car out of a set of duplicates and variants (picked randomly). We race only unmodified mainline cars unless otherwise noted in the rankings.

Like we said, very unscientific but it keeps it fun and exciting. And of course this test only highlights the Redline Derby collection. We encourage you to build your own derby track and race your own cars to find the fastest!
