A quick recommendation for a non-HW downhill demon.

HarvestmanMan Thursday, 9/18/2014

Hello all.  It's been a while since I've posted here, I think all of my old posts were wiped out when the forums changed from the old version.

Anyway, the Greater Cincinnati Hot Wheels Club (of which I am a car-carrying member) just finished up the annual downhill racing event a couple weeks ago.  I'm happy to report that I won two classes:

One, from the rip 'n run series (randomly selected), with a HW FE Mini Cooper.  I was awfully confused about winning with this, as it thoroughly sucked with FTEs when I tried it in the fantasy league here a few years ago.

I won the non-HW class with a car that plenty of people didn't expect to reach the finish line...

For those curious, it is a Matchbox Ford Crown Victoria from the "Heroes" series.  Even though it is unmodified, the all-metal construction and weight distribution apparently give it an edge above competitors.

Just a quick recommendation - if you're looking for a speedy entrant in that "open" class, this Crown Vic fits the bill nicely.

(Here are the rest of the race results. http://cincyhotwheels.com/?p=641 )

Have fun!

Peter

I've seen those things do fairly well (but not win yet) at CVD.  I got a black one recently, and while it's not bad, it doesn't yet seem to be a killer (maybe it needs to loosen up a bit).

Thanks for the info!  By the way, does GCHWC allow main-in entries?

  • I don't believe so - the event is only once a year and the downhill racing is usually an in-person affair. I can ask if you like. — HarvestmanMan
  • I too would be interested to know if they allow mail-ins. — KandORacing
  • Yes, please! Thanks. — FOTF
  • Sure! As long as it's not a problem for you! — KandORacing

Congratulations Pete! The Black & Blue version of that Crown Vic. usually seems to be a murderer on the DCRL's Northshore Hills Road Course, with the exception of two upsets within the last 12 months. I am planning on getting one for myself sometime to see what it does when mailed in to the LJLRC.
