Brookwood Die Cast Drag Way

Nascarkeith Saturday, 12/13/2014

I got busy and got away from the hobby for a while.  Then, a buddy got a workshop and set up a track.  That got me back into it and we actually started a local club so to speak.

We have about 6 people racing every other weekend.  We are running stockers for now.  There are a couple people interested in modding.  As of now our rules are any Hot Wheels mainline vehicle that is based off of a street legal vehicle.  We run 3 classes:  Classics - 1979 and before, Modern - 1980 and after, and trucks.

After a couple of races I decided to build a permanent track in my garage, the Brookwood Die Cast Drag Way.

Specs:  16 feet overall length, 3 ft of track with 49 degrees of drop, 12 ft flat track, 1 foot from the finish line to the padding.

Awesome setup!  Eventually I want to get my track off the floor but never thought about attaching it to the wall. Great idea!

Very cool, Keith! You and your group should host an event! If there are some guys that want to get into modding, maybe you could run the Grudge match FastFWD's?

Good luck with your track!

  • yea... great way for your "might modds" to get a close look at just how...bet our racers will send extras or kits for your buddies...i'm in. — model40fan

+1 what everyone else said.  Great set up, steep transition, any idea on what the angle is? it does not look to upset the cars.... They also seem to to be hauling the mail!

Just for historical purposes, I followed Keith here from rc crawler.com... You can blame him for me being here. Lol.

Thanks for the compliments.  My buddy actually came up with the shelf idea and I copied him.  He has a 1/8 down the side of his workshop with a Hot Wheels track and the John Force Auto World Slot Car track.

The drop is 49 degrees and about 3 feet long.

Having it around belly button high really makes it easier and more fun.  The shelf also lets you use extra track as staging lanes.

Traction-Event what is your name on RCC?

  • soory, missed the drop on first post. RCC was long ago "rock runt" — Traction-Event

Wow nice track, but being a graphic designer I think your logo is very professional looking good job.....Stroller.

The shelf is a great idea! I might steal that idea as well...plus having it against a wall on one side lends itself to some diorama ideas. Just get some pictures or paint some background on the wall and you have a great setup for action photos and videos.

Nicely done!

I'd love to see some more up-close photos of the starting gate and transition gate you have where the hill meets the straight. Just interested how you engineered that to get it straight and reliable.

Stroller, I appreciate the logo compliments.  I'm learning some basic graphic design.

Until I get more pics here is a tip for keeping everything straight.  Just put a 2x4 block along the wall and lay your track using that as your guide.  For the gate and drop I put the track down the center and then set it against the 2x4.  Then, the start gate was screwed into the shelf.

With one long shelf it would be just like setting up a track on the floor.  I was just making what I had work.

Great setup, NK!  That's really cool--SO much more convenient than my setup, ha-ha.  Maybe you've already thought of this (I can't entirely tell if I'm seeing something along these lines in the pictures), but you could also have another track set up alongside the racetrack so that the person manning the catchbox could send them right back to the starting gate operator.  Maybe even have a little ramp at the bottom, too (I know that sometimes, if a car gets sent too hard by hand, it can come off the track).

Would you take a mail-in for your regular racing?

Yeah.  You are exactly right.  My buddy has a slot car drag strip beside his.  I use the tracks on the side for staging lanes.  Most cars hit the padding and roll right back to me.

I might try the mail in stuff once all the kinks are worked out.
