Lake County (Indiana) Fair Hot Wheels Racing

HoosierRacer Saturday, 8/1/2015

I am looking for any tips on the best stock cars to run in this mega-race.  It is a six-lane orange track that is very high and very long.  They run two races each of the two Sundays at the fair, each entry is $1 and they usually have 150-200 cars per race.   The best models typically seem to be funny cars, Hot Tubs, and the F40.  I have also had luck with, strangely enough, a NASCAR car from around 1998.  We have been entering since my son was little and he is heading into high school and we have made the finals but have never placed so this may be our last shot;)  No modifications or sprays allowed.

This car is always a solid runner.

Get some Johnny Lightning Spiderman vans if you can find them cheap.

JL '69 Black with Flames Camaros, JL '70 Mopar or No Car Purple Challengers, Spiderman Vans or Coca-Cola or Gold Cut-Rate Moving Vans (all JL), the occasional Fat Fendered Forty (especially aqua ones), Red Gold Medal Speed F40s, JL Black Monopoly Silverados, original Redlines.

Do you know if this fair allows mail-ins?

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

They do not allow mail-ins.

I've tried the fastest old Redlines and one or two JLs I have and they generally wobble too much.

Here is a video someone posted (not me) from 2013 showing the length of the track:

That race had I think 200+ cars entered, they advance the top three cars of each race so it takes a while.

The more recent FTEs are good but not great...I think they generally are too light.
