Race ideas for 2015

Hi Guys,

I'm just spit-balling ideas for future ideas for races...the Crew Chief Challenge race is right around the corner and the Sedan Shootout is looking very promising. But, what would everybody like to see in 2015?

-Tran-Am...I'd love to see this race take off. I think having these cars go through loops, over jumps and around corners would be great fun

Nostalgia Drags...I know that the Gassers are pretty popular, but I think it would be cool to have three-car teams...an open engine, front-engined, lightweight (under 40 grams), a Gasser middle weight (57 grams) and a Funny Car heavy weight.

Convertibles...Just like the Sedans, a Convertible race could be good fun.

Bare Muscle 2?...I just missed the first Bare Muscle Race, and I am a big fan of the pony era cars!

Can-Am...Another series for going around corners! Ferraris, Porsches...Can-Am cars in the early '70's were some the wildest cars to ever hit the race track

Nascar...it would be cool to run Nascar style cars on an oval. They could either drop down from a gravity start into a track that has 2-180 degree turns. Or, we could set up tracks using the old power units (those things that looked like car washes and had spinny wheels in them...maybe using an AC adaptor?

The possibilities are endless! Now, I'm not saying that all these ideas will happen, but I want to get an idea what you gut s would like to see happen.

Please feel free to post your ideas here as well!

Let's go Racin'

The spinny thing I believe is called a booster..

Races/series around here either happen or they don't...public opinion, and public support... like the wagon wars... all started with an off brand casting of a wagon...then boom.. a full blown race.

Once rules are set...I'm in!

I'm a fan of those Can-Am style cars...that'd be cool. Too many gassers around here if you ask me ;)

But yeah...mail-ins are pretty organic. Start a post about a single tournament idea with some lose rules, etc and then once you get buy-in and interest just set a date.

Plus, one topic per idea keeps things straight and gives people an easier way of finding the event.

I know that way is kind of unorganized but until I can devise some features that make it easier, this is the best way.

I would like to see a 'brand' race, where if your particular car of any brand has a real car brand badge/name, they can race.

Brand Battles!

Ford vs Chevy would be fun! Run it like the Cops and Robbers...4 fastest Fords go against the 4 fastest Chevys...might be fun on this site! :)

  • IMO... FoMoCo, GM, CRYSLER and OTHER BRANDS, 4 BRACKETS, 4 WINNERS EACH, 16 CAR SMACKDOWN. — model40fan
  • There ya go! I kinda like this idea! — 72_Chevy_C10

Country cup! People from different countries could enter, and whoever wins, their country wins! (We could also use this as a state cup)

Non modified car comp! If you haven't modified or changed your car in any way you could enter!

Modified car comp! If you have modified your car in any way you could enter!

Hot Wheels Vs Matchbox! The oldest die cast car rivalry, we can settle this once and for all!

Pre 1990 cup! If you have a die cast car that was made before 1990, you can enter! (Maybe a separate class for cars made in the 70's or older?)

Out of America cup! This will encourage other countries to join Redline Derby. They can just mail the cars in.

Relay. You choose four cars. They race each other. The first 'runner' will be timed in the first quarter of the race and so on. The relay team with the quickest time wins! (This May sound weird, but I tried this with my brother and my friends and it is better than it sounds!)

No limits! Every team sends in their fastest 5 cars and they compete! No restrictions!

What do you think of these?

I like the idea of "team events"...I hadn't thought of running a 'relay' style race though...good idea!

And I love working on older cars too...I'm kinda into the original, 'played with' patina...looks old, but goes fast!,

Hot Wheels vs Matchbox...Brian did some videos of that on here. But, we could do a race where you had to enter one HW and one MB.

Thanks!

Yeah, I really like them too, especially the relay style race. Maybe we can create pages for them?

A tournament where only an even number of cars can race,  because after the first race the fastest car and slowest car would team up for the rest of the series. Also 2nd place teams up with the second to last car and 3rd place car teams up with 3rd to last car etc....Then in each race from then on you add the team's points together for total points in that race.  At each venue from then on the same cars remain as a team for the rest of tournament.  The actual awarding of points may take some thinking.  The name of the tournament would be "Team Tournament"

That may be a bit too hard to keep track of though.

Maybe also a rally style race? If someone has a smooth and sloped driveway we could run cars down there...

I like All Stock and All Mod.  I think you should have a series where you have to send in one of each ("modded" could be defined either by drilled rivets, or--to make it different--it has to have a certain amount of weight added to be considered modded, or a certain percentage of the car painted, or some combination thereof; something to break from tradition--though most might still go with drilled rivets).  Maybe have team points--have all the stocks race, give points for that, then do the same with the mods.

  • if you wanna race with the MODDS then MODD a car instead of trying to change the rules... — model40fan
  • What rules? If you don't like what they come up with, don't enter......modifying and drilling rivets are two different things. — FOTF
  • If drilled and undrilled are the terms defined in this series as stock and mod that's good too. Forgive me for trying to be different. — FOTF
  • drilled rivets prevents cheaters from applying scotch tape and calling it a modd... if you can't drill, then............................. — model40fan
  • Then maybe it should be changed axles, to avoid your helpful hint in WW. Realistically, anything not qualifiably stock is modified. — FOTF
  • you race your fastest in other leagues, they win and are "retired", now you want to enter your ringers in our league, — model40fan
  • you skirt our rules to try and enter your cars as modds with tape, then peel off the tape and they are stockers again, — model40fan
  • sent you 2 johnny lightning MAKO SHARKS to modd, where are they?. do you think we are so stupid we don't see what u do ? — model40fan
  • Frankly, Smitty, I do think YOU can be rather stupid; in this case, because of your trying so hard to see conspiracy where there is none. — FOTF
  • Sorry to disappoint, "Mulder," but I've been pretty straightforward; I've SAID I do that w/ tape! — FOTF
  • Retirees--if they're retired for the year's end, I'm hesitant to send them anywhere. Beyond that, I'll send whatever's fast (cud b retired) — FOTF
  • While I thank you for the Makos, you know I don't do much/am not that good at (yet) modding. — FOTF
  • i will agree with the YOU DON'T DO MUCH ! — model40fan
  • "W/ modding." My mistake, your joy. — FOTF
  • Gotta LOVE your red herrings, Smitty...so eloquently illogical, as seems your norm...kindly stop wasting both our time........ — FOTF

FOTF- Do you think this shoe tore would allow a die cast rally car race though?
