WAR of the WHEELS: FTEs vs. non-FTEs Showdown
To address the question "FTEs: how fast are they really?", I am going to conduct a racing experiment to determine how FTE cars fare against some fast cars of ‘other’ wheel types like Ultra Hots, Bling, Hot Ones, and blackwalls to name a few.
I chose 16 cars from my collection that I know to be good racers, each with a different non-FTE wheel type, as well as 16 FTE models. I am first going to race the fte models against one another in order to rank them from fastest to slowest. Each fte model will race against all other fte models (15 races for each car). The car with the best win/loss record will be ranked at #1, second best record # 2 etc. I will do the same with the non-fte cars.
Once both sets (fte & non fte) cars are ranked #1 – #16, the “War of the Wheels” race can begin. The race will go as follows: the #16 fte car will go head to head against the #16 non-fte car, #15 fte vs. #15 non-fte, etc., until the final race of the #1 ranked fte will go up against the #1 non-fte, each race going the best of three. Once all of the races have run, the group with the most wins will be considered the victor.
I will post pictures of each fte vs non-fte match-up once each group has been ranked.

i like it ! go mongrels...
Sounds like some good racing fun!
I'm good day) and rolls silently & effortlessly down the track.
on older wheels... has anyone tried filling the hollow inside of the wheel ? making them solid...in fact early redlines were...
and then there is momemtum ? .... unsprung weight ? ... any sprocket scientists out there ?
I'm running the first two sets today. Racing both FTE and non-FTE sets of 16 to rank them fastest to slowest. When finished with these two race sets, I'll post the results to show the FTE/non-FTE matchups for the big Showdown.
Due to time constraints, I'm just going to be able to complete the ranking of the non-FTEs today. Wasn't considering how many races this would take, but it's still a blast to do it!
Well, got only half way through the first set. Interesting results so far though. Stay tuned...
First set is finished!
The non-FTE wheel cars are now ranked as follows...
16th: Lotus Elise w/ 10 spoke wheels
15th: Autonomy w/ drag wheels
14th: 16 Angles w/ Phil Riehlman wheel (pr5)
13th: Ferrari 308 w/ gold blackwalls
12th: Classic Cobra w/ blackwalls
11th: Shelby Cobra Daytona w/ open spoke 5
10th: Ferrari 308 w/ lace wheels
9th: 1965 Mustang Fastback w/ five Y wheels
8th: Ferrari 312P w/ redstripe tires
7th: Chrysler 300 C w/ Bling wheels
6th: Turbolence w/ five hole wheels
5th: '57 Chevy w/ hot ones wheels
4th: Ferrari 308 w/ five spoke wheels
3rd: Lamborghini Diablo w/ three spoke wheels
2nd: Ferrari 308 w/ ultra hot wheels
1st: Aeroflash / Silver Bullet w/ directional wheels
Next, I will conduct the same races for the FTE wheel cars and rank them from slowest to fastest as I did above with the non-FTE cars. Again, once this is complete the #16 non-fte car which is now the Lotus Elise w/ 10 spoke wheels, will race the #16 FTE car, #15 non fte (Autonomy w/ drag wheels) vs. #15 FTE and so on down the rankings.
Here are the FTE cars that will be racing (in no particular order)...

Whole bunch of 308's in there!
Cool idea! We should have everyone do this with their own tracks and post the results here! Then we can have a very definitive result!
