Hey race fans! The track's tweaked, the weather's fine, it's time for another tournament on the most dangerous track in the PNW, it's time for the Summer Round Robin!

If you haven't seen the course, it's a rally style course that runs outdoors, straight through our lush garden bed. There's plenty of opportunities for racing, passing, crashing, and totally destroying your car! Only the brave need apply.

Rules & restrictions

  • Modified entries only
  • 75g maximum weight
  • 1.5in. tall x 1.25in. wide
  • Limit 2 entries per household
  • Any wheels/axles
  • Any lube
  • Must be primarily a bright color to aid in search & rescue in the garden.

Dates & deadlines

All entries must be received by the host before Saturday, 7/4/2021. Qualification is scheduled to begin Sunday, 7/5/2021. Results will be posted on or after that date as is convenient for the host.

How to enter

Contact the tournament host to get the shipping address for entry.

Include at least $5.00 for return shipping if you want your entries back. I use the CASH app, or can work something out. Send ca$h at your own risk.

Include a Race Entry ID slip with your entry

Track

Racing will be on the Garden Canyon Run. View track profile and specs

Race format and scoring

There will be 2 qualification runs, once in each lane for each car to determine seed position. Following will be a Round Robin tournament for the16 top qualifying cars. Every car will face every other car one time in a two-up battle. Each battle will consist of 4 runs, 2 runs in each lane.

There are 8 checkpoints along the course, a single point will be awarded to the first car to fully pass each checkpoint during each run. All points will accumulate to the end of the Round Robin where the top 4 points holders will battle it out in a Four-Up race for the Championship.

Penalties/DNF

Cars must weigh between 40-75 grams. Cars are given a grace of +/-1.5gr over the stated weight limit to account for variance in scales.

All cars must resemble a real car, at least vaguely. Ratical Racer is fine. Grass Chomper, or Speed Spider not so much. Cars must be predominantly a bright color to assist in search and rescue in the garden bed.

If a car fails to meet any of the restrictions listed above, the car will not qualify for victory. Offending cars will still race. Finish position and any prize will go to the runner-up in the case of the penalty car winning.

Cars that fail to run or fit on the track, or that happen to break during racing, will forfeit their matches. Cars that arrive broken will attempt to be minimally repaired before the racing begins. Cars that break during racing will attempt to be repaired or replaced.

Keep in mind this is an outdoor track; expect your entry to get wet, dirty, muddy, or to be smashed from height into rocky obstacles. It's the most dangerous track in the PNW!

Prizes

Bragging rights to all who survive! Though it hasn't been planned, every champion thus far has been awarded at least one unopened 1:64 scale diecast car to commemorate the honor.

You know I'll send it

Alley cat Race Club's pre-modified entries. Check out that high-vis green! Hopefully I can also make it fast!

OK, my last mods didn't do very well, so I need to try my luck at this track again!

Hey gang, little update. You may have noticed in the last Spring Classic videos I got a new camera with much better pic quality to use as Camera 1. Super excited about that! I also have a laptop coming; all along I've been making videos on my phone. Super inefficient way to do it I'm pretty sure. New laptop arrived last night with plenty of time to learn how to switch over my workflow, except they didn't send the laptop I ordered (Dell XPS15) instead they sent an entirely different small Chromebook. It's getting remedied, but the new one won't arrive until second week of July, EXACTLY when I plan to edit the first footage of the GCR Summer Round Robin.

Long story short, there might be a delay in the first videos coming out...or I might just start out working on the phone same as I have been; that will result in the first few videos likely having a different feel/look to the later ones throughout the tournament, but would keep the videos coming out more regularly which is important at least to me, and I think to any of you following along.

Guess I'm just thinking out loud here...if you've picked up anything about me you'll not be surprised when I probably bulldoze ahead and just make it work on the fly :-)

In other news, I believe we have about a dozen cars informally entered so far, I can't wait to see them all!

And for your enjoyment, here's a pic of all the Alley Cat Race Club cars that got crashed and destroyed while testing and tweaking the track during the Spring Classic. (And one Uncle Elvis Musclebound, too.) Most were the result of using super glue instead of JB Weld. Some were just the victims of the most dangerous track in the PNW! Little hiker dude lost his head :-(

It's official, the first cars have arrived, and they look fast! Spirit_Of_64 here with 2 mean machines. Who's next?
