Hill Cimb Track Idea..

Stroller Thursday, 7/11/2013

I'm thinking of building a hill climb track consisting of 4 ft down ramp 1 ft of straight away and 4 ft up hill. The down ramp and the up ramp would be at the same angle. It could be one lane or maybe 2 but whomever goes the furthest up the up ramp would win. Does this sound feasible, or just plain wacky?....

It sounds wacky and interesting.

You could put a line right in the dead center of the 1 foot straight. Let the car swing back and forth, and the car that crosses over that line the most times is the winner.

Watch the car rolling back and forth...back and forth....watch very closesly. Relax...so relaxed....until all you can hear is the sound of my voice. When I count backwards and snap my fingers...you will be under my total control.

That is an even crazier idea!

What if you made it a 3 ft. uphill? or did some testing to find a height that most cars don't make it up (and over) to. Like that crazy uphill motorcycle stuff.

That was the Idea. Just don't know if it will work.

There's one way to find out. Get on it!

What if you did this: Build yourself an uphill ramp, like 8 feet at a fairly steep angle. Get a battery powered supercharger at the bottom. So you end up with one length of orange track down to the supercharger, which fires the car up the ramp. You can designate zones on the ramp for how far up the car gets. First segment says "Cream Puff", second says "Sorta Wussy" all the way up to "Tough Guy" and "He-Man"

And if the car makes it all the way to the top, it dings off the little bell....and ya get a prize.

(I know it sounds like I'm being flip about it...but I could see kids having some fun with something like this. I might build one myself.)

I had an idea a while ago about similar to what Shadow is talking about only with a downhill + curve...stealing ideas from the old Shoot the Moon game.

Downhill goes into a curve and then there's a loooong straight with lines denoting distance segments with the goal being the closest car to the end of the track without going off the edge. So you don't want a car that's so heavy/fast it goes off the end but no so light that it doesn't go far.

our street rod club used to run the "ROAST AND COAST" down the hill, coast up-hill, furthest wins...

Yeah that's the idea....I think..

Uphill sections are obvious slowly...it can make the finishing speeds higher and outcomes a bit more interesting.
