Fantasy League teams is something I know needs improvement. It's something I want to improve before the big Spring 2012 update, however, I'm not quite sure how to accomplish this goal. Lots of ideas have been thrown around and discussed but nothing has been decided yet.

Forum member SeattleGrey has shown great interest in wanting to make teams fun within the fantasy league game and suggested we could do a trial of some team ideas here within the forum. I've asked him to lead this effort as a way to determine if team play is something that will be part of the 2012 season, and he has graciously accepted the challenge.

This part of the show is SeattleGrey's to run and I ask all regular fantasy league players support his efforts. If team play even remotely interests you, please participate in this trial run so I can make a decision on league teams for next year.

This forum should only be used for topics regarding this trial.

So, if you weren't paying attention to the Suggestion Box, let me explain the concept a bit.

Right now, we all participate in the Redline Derby Racing Fantasy League as individuals. We make our predictions, we get scores, our scores accumulate throughout the year and the individual with the most points at the end of a season wins.

NOTHING ABOUT THIS NEW "TEAMS" IDEA WILL CHANGE THAT.

However, if our basic game is rather similar to "Rotisserie Baseball" (for those of you who remember how that particular game really kickstarted the whole "fantasy sports" craze)...then this new "TEAMS" idea would be comparable to how most "Fantasy Football" games are run.

You'd do the same things that you currently do--pick cars, select your brackets--but in the "TEAMS" concept, what you score for an individual race would be combined with what your teammates scored in that race...and your team's score would be compared against a specific other team's score, as predetermined by a "schedule", and whichever of the two teams has the highest "team score" would earn a win....and it is wins/losses that determine the Team Standings.

This entirely new way of playing Redline Derby is based entirely on the current way that you play Redline Derby--Twice The Fun, Without Twice The Work! Yay!

...well, that's the basic concept.

The next couple of posts that I put up will explain the specifics...but, what we've got planned is a trial season of this whole "TEAMS" concept to run during Season 6--as a proof of concept experiment. I would love to have as many current players as possible involved in this trial season...and in another thread, I'll ask for volunteers. (Even though there's little extra work involved with being part of the "TEAMS" concept, it's best for this trial season to be run with participants invested with a little enthusiasm for the project.)

Sounds good so far.

I've changed my mind about how we're going to handle the League/Teams trial...because I think the idea needs a "proof of concept" run more than it needs active participation (and this proof of concept run will highlight what rules would make active participation both fun and fair.)

So...we're just going to arbitrarily set up teams based on Season 5's final standings. No need for anyone to do anything. No reason for anyone to "care" (in the sense of "get worked up and hope to win")--the goal is just to see how the numbers crunch.

I'll post the schedules/results in this forum. Feel free to check in through the Season to see how it feels...but it'll just be run on auto-pilot to see how it goes. (More details in other threads.)
