Into week three of the landscape?

Nothing to do but to go over the RTL highlights for Tournament Six to find out!

MATCH ONE: VALIANTS at RAMBLERS

In a preview of what looks like it might be the match-up for this year's GreyyCup Championship, the La Salle Division leading Ramblers played host to the Tucker Division Plymouth Valiants. Both teams came into this game undefeated--although the Ramblers had suffered the indignity of a tie against the once lowly AMC Javelins.

Heavy rains turned the Ramblers Field track in Nash into a quagmire, turning this battle between two rather productive offensive teams into a defensive struggle. The visiting Valiants took an early lead as they held the Nash team captain, Redline Derby to his personal lowest tournament point total of the season. Ramblers' Bandeeze/Ohana managed to score their first points of the season--which probably kept them off the waiver wire, here in week three--but at halftime, the hometown Ramblers were still down by 4 points.

The game remained close throughout the second half--with the Valiants pushing their advantage in the third quarter only to see the Ramblers' Zoom make a rush towards a last second victory. In the end, despite the Ramblers home field advantage, the Ramblers came up just a point short...and suffering their first loss of the season.

Still, it was an exciting and close battle that bodes well for a potential rematch in the Championship Game at the end of the season!

And now we reach the halfway point of the Blind Test Season. After this tournament, every team will have faced every other team once. Clearly, this league has some strong teams and some other teams that may or may not be just one or two pieces away from putting a run together in the second half of the season.

This would also be the last tournament before some teams could make free agent signings--which could make the second half of the season look very different.

Still, that's all what would happen after this tournament's matches. What would happen this tournament? Would scoring be as low as it was in Tournament Six...or would teams again push their team scores into 40s...50s...even the 60s?

The only way to find out is to check out the RTL highlights for Tournament Seven!

MATCH ONE: RAMBLERS at LARKS

The La Salle Division leaders, the Nash Ramblers, were reeling after suffering their first loss of the season. Their trip to Studebaker to take on the Larks, who themselves were fresh off their second win of the season--a defensive masterpiece that held the Hudson Hornets to a record low 3 points.

The weather was much nicer than the previous week, so the Studebaker fans came out in force to cheer on their Larks...

And the Larks needed every bit of home field advantage that they could get...because while the Larks raced out to a 21 to 10 first half lead...the Ramblers kept chipping away at that lead in the second half. It came down to the final play of the match...but the Larks defense held.

The Ramblers, shockingly, have now lost two in a row...while the Larks have won two in a row--and all the RTL teams now have to know that when you come to Studebaker Field, you're going to have to bring your best or leave with a loss.

this is a very cool idea, and its very entertaining to read, um i am a lil competitive so im just wondering if we could drop our two players who havent scored any points this whole season lol, its really hurting us Larks. but im super excited to see where this takes us!

This year is a "blind trial" season, Mcjiggles9--the season is being run to prove the concept and see how the numbers crunch. As explained in the rules for this season, there are no demands being put on the team captains for this season--all personnel decisions will be made automatically. There will be no trades and free agent signings will be limited to replacing players who have not scored any points in three consecutive WEEKS (not matches/tournaments).

As this was just the end of the third week of the season...guess what my next post will be about? That's right...some teams are about to announce that they've made roster moves (all made on behalf of the teams in this "blind trial" season.)

Will the Larks make a move? Will Mcjiggles have a new teammate? (Or teammates?) If so, who will they be?

The next post will answer those questions!

(And next season, when the rosters will be in the control of the team captains...your team can be a bit more pro-active. But, that's next season...)

Roster Moves and Free Agent Signings after Tournament Seven of the Blind Trial Season

With three weeks worth of matches in the books, some teams have realized that they have roster spots being taken up by players who not only aren't pulling their weight--they're not showing up at all. Time for these teams to take advantage of the pool of free agents who have been racking up points in --especially galling in Tournament Six, when the top score for the week was actually earned by an unclaimed Free Agent!

The rules are that teams can only drop a player when they have not scored in three consecutive weeks worth of tournaments. After the first three weeks of this season, five players meet that criteria and are being replaced by eligible and available free agents. The top scoring free agents will go, in order, to the teams that need them the most--the lowest teams in the standings will receive the best available free agent.

So, with that explained...let's go ahead and detail these first roster moves of the season.

The team currently in last place in the league--based on team record and the point differential between points scored and points allowed--is the Mercury Cougars. The Cougars have a player who has not scored a single point in any of the tournaments in the first three weeks of the season. That player is Hop...and Hop has been released by the Cougars (and becomes an unrestricted free agent.) Replacing Hop on the Cougars roster is buzzkillg230rc who has scored in all seven tournaments this year...and had scores of 180 and 150 that make him the top rated free agent so far this season.

The team currently in second to last place in the league is the Hudson Hornets. The Hornets, however, do not have any players that meet the criteria for replacement...so they make no roster moves at this time. The team currently in third to last place in the league is the Stutz Bearcats. The Bearcats do not have any players that meet the criteria.

The Studebaker Larks are the fourth to last place in the league. They, amazingly, have two players who have not scored a single point in any of the tournaments of the first three weeks of the season. The Larks are releasing both Goolz Jr and Dani<3 and replacing them with the second and third best free agents so far this year: martinstang who have both scored in all seven tournaments this year.

The Pontiac Firebirds are the fifth to last place in the league. They have one player, John C, who has not scored a point this season and they have released him. Replacing John C on the Firebirds line-up is the fourth best available free agent so far this year: 4UBRAT, who is the last remaining free agent who has scored in all seven tournaments so far this year.

In sixth to last place in the league, the AMC Javelins have one player who has not scored a point this season. Releasing Slash 288 into the free agent pool, they will replace him with Baranca who has scored points in five of the seven tournaments this season.

And no other teams currently have roster members who meet the replacement criteria...

So, to recap:
Mercury Cougars
releasing: Hop
signing: buzzkillg230rc

Studebaker Larks
releasing: Dani<3
signing: martinstang

Pontiac Firebirds
releasing: John C
signing: 4UBRAT

AMC Javelins
releasing: Slash 288
signing: Baranca

...and these roster changes will be in place starting with Tournament Eight.

Good luck, everybody!

Wow, great work Seattle...I know I've been saying it a lot, but your effort is appreciated by all of us. So far the league teams has been great and a lot of fun, so I am starting to outline how to bake this into the game next year with tools for both you as commissioner and for team captains, as well as auto-scoring and stuff like that. It'll be like two games in one, and that I like.

In response to recent tournaments....

What the heck!!?? Two losses? Come on Ramblers, we need to get back on track!! I'm okay with getting beat, but only if we get *beat* - and a one point loss is pathetic. Losing 50-10, that's fine, we just suck then...but we're awesome and losing by 1 point is a slap in the face. All you chumps in the Valiants better watch out because we'll get our revenge, oh yes. It doesn't matter if we're only firing on 3 out of 4 cylinders...we'll be back. We'll meet again and the only team that will be leaving Thunderdome is the Ramblers. The rest of y'all can just sit back and enjoy the fight.

One thing I'm really liking about how the numbers are crunching is that the "home field advantage" is coming into play. A simple rule tweak to give the "home" team the benefit of rounding fractions up when the opposing teams round their fractions down can really only sway a game by 1 or 2 points...but that can be the difference that determines a win, a loss or a tie...and it works within the setting.

Should be interesting to see what the impact of the free agent signings do to the numbers this week!

Thats ok, my three no scoring guys will be due for release in the next two weeks. It's a bit rough as they each have shown up one time since the start of the season, but that just makes for a better come back.

My guys are ranked 28th, 29th and 31st.... Hell, I'd take Barney's Angels at this point, LMAO. JK, we love ya Jen!!!

When do we (Javelins) get another shot at those unbeaten Valiants? It's time to knock them off their little perch!
