Some good racing this past weekend that wasn't without its surprises and challenges. Here are some of quick highlights.

Rusty Cage - Dieselboy was certainly a favorite going into this bracket but he almost didn't make it thanks to a good fight from the Screamin Hauler. It was close and Bone Shaker saw it so his confidence was high, and while he got the drop on Dieselboy, he just couldn't keep up on the straight and let the Boy make it all the way to the final.

The big upset in this bracket was Splittin Image making it all the way to the third round after coming from behind in both Round 1 and Round 2, narrowly beating the Fast Fish FTE and then a back-n-fourth battle with the rookie Phaeton.

Over in the other division, Shadow Jet had no problems cruising through Round 1 and 2, then having a throwdown with the Stockar FTE, which also showed a lot of guts on its way to the Round 3. That third round battle was a bumper winner for Shadow Jet...Stockar has nothing to be ashamed of. The final round was another blood-n-guts battle between the veteran Dieselboy and Shadow Jet. Dieselboy probably came in with a little too much confidence and before he could blink the Shadow Jet slid by to victory lane.

My Old School - Nothing to special overall in this bracket. Lots of well-known cars in the fray but even then this was a tournament full of matchups that could go either way, and they did. This bracket was part skill and part luck.

Top races this go around was the Round 1 face-off between the Firebird and the Camaro, which looked dead even but the all-metal Firebird inched it out...must be the flame decals. The 74 Charger seemed to come out of left field with its string of victories all the way to the final round, but don't let his final position as runner-up fool you...he worked very hard to get there and none of the races were easy wins for the Dodge.

With an average record, the Judge shouldn't turn heads but I am always amazed by how fast it seems to roll. It had little trouble eliminating the Dart and the 67 Camaro, and it almost got the best of the GTO convertible but I think it had spent all its juice by Round 3.

Even if the action was somewhat unspectacular, there's nothing much better than seeing a herd of muscle cars battle it out on the strip. Imagine all these bad boys battling it out in the real world...that would be pretty sweet.

Top prospects: 70 GTP Judge, Splittin Image,
