Video Editing Apps

In preparation for hosting my first race, doses anyone have any suggestions on what video editing apps to use when I edit the racing footage?

You can get pretty far with iMovie, honestly. It runs fairly well on iPhone and iPad...granted, smaller screen can mean bigger headache as you work. And bonus...it's FREE!

I also believe I just saw an update to iMovie that makes it easier to add images and overlays, and also green screen so you can place your track in the middle of the artic, if you want.

Anyway...I'd start with iMovie and see how far that gets you. After you've made a few videos, make a list of all the things it doesn't do and search for other apps. Or, as I've done too, I use my phone to shoot video and iMovie to do some initial trimming/editing. Then I take those videos to my desktop where I use a different app to stitch them together and get more "creative" - but personally, I still find using a desktop computer for editing/composing gives me more control than on a phone, but that's just preference.

I've messed around with a few desktop video editing apps and none of them were as easy to use as iMovie. My biggest beef with iMovie is getting movies off the phone but even that's getting kind of picky.

And FWIW, anyone can download the Redline Derby Racing media kit so you can use any of the RLD screens and logos in your videos.

Here's another recent-ish discussion about video recording, apps, and production.

I use iMovie

iMovie, iMovie, iMovie!!! And if you want to make some nice graphics to add to your video, use Keynote. It's all "free" on any modern Mac.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll give iMovie a shot.

iMovie is great, as is Videoshop, a relatively inexpensive app that works well with iMovie.
