Ideal length for drag strips?
ThinIce Monday, 7/11/2016
I'm starting to build my own track using the orange strips, and currently I have a two lane 10 foot long drag strip from pieces I have acquired from thrift stores (honestly, thrift stores are some of the cheapest places to get some nice usable track pieces). In scale, this is a nice 1/8 mile long strip, but I feel like 10 feet isn't long enough to decide a winner since many cars can kick in on longer tracks.

We still run a 40 ft. race with a 6ft. drop. It's cool to see a stronger car pull off a last second win.

I would say shoot between 12-20 feet depending on how much space you have.
I would agree that 10-feet feels too short but sometimes the short track racing is just a exciting as long track, so it's up to what you really like and want to see yourself. Build the track you think is fun and cool, that will go further than worrying about ideal lengths because there's no real answer...and here, we don't really care - we'll race anywhere!
