I'll keep looking...you reporting that it's counting your own replies is certainly an issue if it's true. I'll see what I can find out. When I logged in just now the counter had "2" and there were 2 thumbs up replies to a post and other conversation, so it counted correctly in that case...but I'll see if there's any bad math somewhere in the system.
Is anyone else seeing similar incorrect counts when they login? The more data I have on the problem the easier it will be for me to solve and fix.
Browser history shouldn't matter in relation to alert counts because I'm doing all that on web server side of things, not within the browser client. But that doesn't mean there isn't an issue with the server-side cookies so I need to verify that I'm doing all that I can."if it's true."  - Brian, consider this your second time.  I only allow for 3.

"if it's true."  Brian, Consider this your second time.  I only allow for 3.  Markham

When I logged in the counter said "1".  I didnt screen capture the counters on the page, but I think they were at zero on both.  This is the text under the counters.

Hi Brian,

I have just noticed that my profile has changed from 'Outside of the United States' to 'Indiana'.

I have tried to change it back and save it but it keeps resetting to 'Indiana'.

  • Weird. I'll check it out. Thanks, sorry for the trouble — redlinederby
  • This should be fixed, please try to update your profile again — redlinederby
  • Sorted, thanks Brian — Keef921

I don't know if this has to do with the site, but apparently my account was hacked to some extent recently: K&O called me and told me (and I saw it for myself in the message history) about some strange messages he received from me; random things--some in different languages, some seemingly random arrangements of letters and question marks, a couple of blank ones, and a random thing about home runs--along with several suspicious links.  If anyone else gets anything like this from me, DON'T CLICK ON THE LINKS.  I don't know what they lead to.  Very sorry about this, and I hope no one else has gotten anything like this (though it looked like 72_Chevy C10 had gotten a couple blank ones about a month ago--but that could've been me clicking a wrong button or something.  Again, I don't know if this is anything due to the site--probably some sort of bot or virus--so I'll make a general post about it as well.  I already changed my password.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but a couple of the message at the beginning of the thread (we'd been writing back and forth about Redlines) were apparently unable to be viewed.  There was some sort of thing in their places about a "severe warning," or something like that.  Again, sorry if it happened to anyone else--if it did, please let me know.

I received another non-sensical message in my inbox today, this time it is nothing but random sentences all mixed together. Hopefully Brian can get to the bottom of this.

Wait, were these private messages that had all the spam in them? Or email messages?

Please post here if you see this type o problem. I will investigate immediately. I will turn off PMs if this is really affecting everyone.

I went into the database and saw the spam messages and have removed them. I also added a quick fix that should block this from happening again. It looks like this wasn't very widespread at all, only a few messages that I could find had the problem.

From what I can tell, it wasn't from anyone's account being hacked - although changing your password is never a bad thing to do if you're uncertain. It looks like these messages resulted from a person or bot that found a way to send a message without having to be logged in. Thus I patched this hole that should stop it from happening again.

If anyone receives any more weird spam-looking PMs, please email or PM me right away.

Sorry for the worry and inconvenience.

Brian, are you running a survey?  Starting today everytime I come to the site I'm getting a survey popup for Redline Derby.

No. Shouldn't be any surveys...you say it's a Redline Derby survey? What is is a survey for? Any other details you can give will help.

I'm not getting an pop-ups. If anyone else is, please shout it out.

You will never see any pop-ups on this site, at least not by my choice. If no one else is seeing the same survey - and it's not a RLD sponsored survey - there's a chance your computer might have a malware that is causing the pop-up.

I'm not having a pop-up upon login.

Thanks for taking care of the spam issue!
