Basic construction. Cut inside portion of one box to be 1/4 and 3/4 of overall length. Cut outside portion of same box in half by length. Insert a 1/2 box length all the way to the left or right then the 3/4 length into other box bottom, then the other 1/2 box length and then the 1/4 length. This gives you the thickest base layer for support. Adjust for evenness and tape the inserted pieces into place. I also taped the edges of all the cut boxes to the bottom box after assembly. You can then place assembled portions into remaining top to use as a race box (open) or as a cover to close up the box. As a storage box this one will hold 8 more cars easily.
Dividers are cardboard - cut to fit openings. Then wrapped in tissue paper.
I move the top two rows back and forth when used as a race box - allowing 36 cars to be ranked. As shown above they are 13th - 36th place. If you move 13-24 to the other openings then you have 1st through 24th showing.
TO SEPARATE THE CARS "GIVA" COULD RUN A STRIP OF DUCT TAPE... CUT SOME CARDSTOCK STRIPS 1.25" WIDE X THE LENTH OF THE SECTION [3.25"]...STICK ONE STRIP NEXT TO ANOTHER PERPENDICULAR TO THE STICKY SIDE OF THE TAPE STRIP, SKIP ONE STRIP'S WIDTH, STICK 2 MORE STRIPS... SKIP ONE, STICK 2, SKIP ONE, STICK 2...ETC.
THEN FOLD THE TWO STRIPS TOGETHER TAPE BACK TO TAPE BACK, FOLD THE STICKY TAPE SECTION DOWN OVER THE CARD STOCK STRIP, THIS WILL CREATE A 1.25" FLAT X A 1.25" UPRIGHT X A 1.25" FLAT X A 1.25" UPRIGHT...AND SO ON...

The price on Amazon fluctuates A Lot. 6.75 at the moment, which seems to be the floor, but has been as high as 12 bucks in the last month. Many of Amazon's prices fluctuate day to day, I have a feeling they are scanning competition and keeping their price in range with competition...raising when no one else has them on sale.
I picked up a couple last week at Jo Ann's a little over $6.00 each. Still on sale for 50% off.
Walmart now at $6.75 + free shipping over $50.
