Damn I know Bolo brown has his track on a similar path, but his only has 4 banked turns compared to this. Is this going to be on far track or 2 1 car lanes side by side?

  • Everything laid out before speaks to single lane construction and no open track at all. Yes, Bolo's design follows a similar spiral but is built with open space allowing us to see more of the cars' travel in his videos. — Chris_Hood

For a fun casual track, it maximises the available build footprint. I'm assuming around an eight foot height based on the straight sections being five feet long.

In crafting a YT show, be it long form or short content, what legs would the show have based on a time trial format? I would also closely look at the physical demands of filming and how much of the action can be captured with a single camera.

  • interesting — dr_dodge
  • Great if you have a very small space...with a high ceiling. Looks good! — ManiacMotorsports
  • Holy crap, this thing’s real? — alva1370
  • That is a great start! Can't wait to see the end product! — JBlotner42
  • I would suggest affixing the bottom of the four poles to a solid platform, a rectangle of OSB plywood or similar, to help mitigate the frame swaying as the car hits those turns — Chris_Hood

with every drop, the car gets faster, and faster....

as chris said, filming will be a challenge,

you coud do a "big 0" but tought to film from the inside

also look up tiny cars (big O) as to the challenges thru that many drops

my testing leads me to believe it should be,

drop, flat, curve with drop into 1/2 straight drop, then flat, etc

controls the car speed, more "gas it, lift for corner, out and gas it again

did you make the crazy doom track "way back when"?

ran the camera down?

good luck, do small sections first, and test, test, test

dr

  • yes, crazy 150 foot track from attic in garage. Bottom 30 feet still exists...took down the rest. — WidowmakerRun
  • TTC's "The Big O"!! What fun it was as we all speculated early on how he did it! I was even scrutinising the cotton boll clouds for variations. — Chris_Hood

Here’s a track.

  • Sweet memories of running this in RalliSport Challenge 2 — Chris_Hood

what CAD software is that you used?

  • nice! — jlane
  • how many sets is that? — dr_dodge
  • About 10 sets total i bought on ebay....i still have a bunch more left than shown here. I will modify the track with curves going through the middle as well. I was mainly testing speed here....i have 6 inch drop between turns. I am going to try to remove the straight piece in the turns as the sidewall height is lower than the curves and causes issues. — WidowmakerRun
  • Great demonstration, allaying my concerns earlier on the stiffness of the frame — Chris_Hood

  • Far more interesting than a continuous spiral! Not to assume your skills in metalworking, a supporting spine under certain sections may help with stability. Looking fun, there! — Chris_Hood
  • I will add bracing and supports when track is 100%done — WidowmakerRun
  • Very cool! — johnson9195
  • Super cool — JBlotner42
  • Nicely done with the revisions. — Midwest_Diecast_Raceway
  • This is Magnificent. It's also a rollercoaster not a hot wheels track. ;] — LordSyosset
  • That grey is very cool! — Midwest_Diecast_Raceway

Are you using 1x2 lumber? This is a great idea! I already have a drag strip and I'm building a road course/track in my garage. Looks great! Well done!

  • Yup...1x2 — WidowmakerRun
  • I used it to make a slot car table, and just supported the track with t shaped stuff, glued, and solid as heck! — dr_dodge
  • Nice! I was just looking at 1x2s the other day at Home Depot and now I will definitely buy some. Plus it's way cheaper than 2x4s for sure. Good luck on the build! — Zizzer_Prime

What are some good movies where they are in very large caves ?  Like deep in Earth with pillars from floor to ceiling?

Thats my theme!  Giant cave!  Gold, gems, stuck in floors and walls.
