Red Desert Baja Mail-in Race
Saturday, July 20th, 2019The Red Desert Baja race is back! A few years ago I created the Red Desert Baja course. It is a tough track with jumps, bumps, and multiple surfaces. This is a one of a kind race on a one of a kind track that you definitely don't want to miss!
Cars run a time trial on the course, the top 16 cars will race head to head in a single elimination bracket.
Here is some video to give you an idea of the track.
Rules & Restrictions
Max weight 65 grams.
Max length 4 inches.
Max height 2.5 inches.
Width - should fit on Hot Wheels orange track. (I utilize orange track for the start gate.)
Any wheels and axles are allowed.
Stock or modified cars are allowed.
Dry lubes only
One car per entrant. If you have multiple people sending cars in the same house that’s fine. I want everyone that wants to enter to be able to, but this race is a lot of video work since everyone gets their own time trial video so just one car per person please.
There will be a $1 entrance fee per car.
Races will be videoed and posted online.
Cars due July 20th, 2019. Racing will start the following week. Video and results will begin to be posted the following Saturday, July 27th.
This race is part of the 2019 Diecast 64 points series. We will also be running 3 other classes this month. If you are interested in racing in any of the other classes this month go to the following link for info. http://www.racehotwheels.com/2019/05/july-2019-diecast-64-races.html
Mail-in cars should be sent with return postage if the racer wants them back.
Where to send your cars:
Robby Comeford
P.O. Box 156
Washington, Utah

Scoring and Winning
First there will be a time trial. Each car will have 5 runs. The fastest 16 cars will qualify for a head to head bracket. The winner of the bracket will be the Red Desert Baja Champ. If 16 cars are unable to finish the course during the time trials, the furthest distance each car was able to travel will be used to round out the 16 car bracket.
Discussion
And a package is on the way, really looking forward to this!
This is truly a Bucket List race....just one of the best races on the racing calender every year...always look forward to this race.
Okay, my snow plow didn't make weight so i'm planning on sending my Demolition Derby Chevelle. It's not a fast car but not exactly slow either. It's a fairly light car with big ol' wheels which im thinking is a good thing for this race with all the bumps and jumps. I'm hoping it'll do okay, but we'll see! I'll try to get it sent out today or tomorrow. Not entirely sure how this return shipping thing works but i'll figure it out.
- It's like this. If it costs you 8$ to send it to Robby you put 8$ in the box so he can send it back to you — NDeavers80
Going shopping for something right now, I'll post pics soon.
Ares wasn't popular with its fellow combatants. But, was my best showing in any event last year taking 2nd. Thought he might sit this year out and just watch from the sidelines as his Sandblaster brothers take on the boingy bouncers. But alas he will return. Bent axles and all. Good luck racers.
Any updates? Deadline was yesterday for entries.
Can we please get an update on this? Am I the only one who sent a car in???
- go to youtube and subscribe to diecast 64...Robby should have some racing hiiting youtube today — LeagueofSpeed
- Great, thanks LoS — WorpeX
For those that entered the sportsman, open mod, or open stock for July, those videos have been posted on YouTube. The Red Desert Baja is our feature race this month and it’s going to take me a few more days to get the videos completed. Thanks for your patience. :) I’ll post them here and on YouTube as I finish them up.
Holy crap. This looks amazing. I finally have a use for my Oshkosh Snow Plow (if it even is under the weight limit). I'm totally sending it if I can! Theres no chance it'll actually make it down that track without wiping out but it'll make for a great video! haha
