GreyyCup VI!

The sixth season of history to be shut out in a match...(and then they did it again the very next week.) Even the mighty AMC Javelins found themselves spending much of the year looking up at others in the standings (rocked, as they were, by the sudden departure of their captain and high scorer, JDC 442 Racing just as the season began.)

The Javelins stayed in the Tucker Division hunt throughout the year mostly because no team seemed capable of stringing together enough wins over each other to pull ahead. The Javelins would trade places with the Plymouth Valiants and the Studebaker Larks throughout the year. Larks Captain Mcjiggles9 had even boasted that this was the year that they were going to take home the GreyyCup.

Over in the LaSalle Division, things were much as they always seemed to be...with the Pontiac Firebirds and the Nash Ramblers proving to be the strongest teams in the entire league...and it was no surprise that they ended up in the Division Championship game, where one of them would once again represent the LaSalle Division in the GreyyCup game--because they are the ONLY teams to have EVER represented the LaSalle Division.

Who would they face? Well, it would not be the Javelins...who once again struggled in the playoffs with one team member failing to contribute--they would go on to lose both playoff games, even the consolation match against the lowly Bearcats. It would either be the Larks or the Valiants. The Larks have only represented the Tucker Division in the GreyyCup once...the Valiants NEVER have.

In the Divisional Championship Games, all four teams came out guns-a'blazin'...with each team getting strong participation from everyone on their teams. In the LaSalle Division game, the Ramblers captain, Redline Derby, gave his team a slim lead that they never relinquished--despite a blistering and consistent attack from the Firebirds. This must have been a huge disappointment for the Firebirds--who have lost the ...as the Firebirds have unfortunately learned this year.)

And in the Tucker Division Championship Game, the Studebaker Larks desperately wanted to make good on their goal of taking the GreyyCup this year--and they took a first half lead...27 to 22...over the Plymouth Valiants. All they had to do was hang on. And while Fully loaded and newly signed free agent Fastest of the Fastest put up decent numbers...they could not keep KYCAT or AMH 412 from outscoring them...and not only erasing the Larks early lead, but building up an even bigger lead of their own.

In the end, the Ramblers upset the Firebirds by eight points...and the Valiants pushed past the Larks by seven.

That means, either the Nash Ramblers will become the first team in GreyyCup, because it is a neutral site game.

So...who do you have? The crafty veterans hoping to win their second RTL championship in a row...or the feisty, captainless newcomers who want to wrap their hands around this year's trophy.

It's GreyyCup VI. Somebody's going to win!
(Unless it ends in a tie...which it could. That'd be weird.)

In the words of my idol Macho Man Randy Savage....OH YEAH!!

Way to race, Ramblers. Showing the rest how it's done. Lets all make space on our mantles for that GreyyCup trophy.

GreyyCup VI was a game of two halves. The first half belonged to the LaSalle Division Champion Nash Ramblers--unsurprisingly, as the Ramblers are a two-time GreyyCup winning team. They were not intimidated by their circumstances--the large crowd, all the media attention, the "it all comes down to this" pressure. Team Captain Redline Derby opened up the game putting up 16 points and giving his team more than a five point lead. iowastockcars pushed that lead open by another point.

After such a dominant first half, it would seem like the Nash Ramblers would cruise to their third GreyyCup (and their unprecedented second consecutive win). After all, their opponents, the Tucker Division Champion Plymouth Valiants were competing in their first ever GreyyCup. And the Valiants didn't even have a captain who could make adjustments to their game plan for the second half--they became the first captainless team to ever make the GreyyCup, which many believed would be reward enough for their efforts...just to participate in this game. The Ramblers had handled and bettered the Valiants best two players--Atlcelica and multispeed were each outscored by their Ramblers counterparts.

In the second half, the Ramblers could count on both ToyCarJunkie and longklaw, each with very consistent performances over the years and GreyyCup experience. The Valiants' hopes relied on two free agents: KYCAT and AMH412. They not only had to score points against the stingy Ramblers defense, but they would have to make up the points that they were behind the Ramblers AND hold their more veteran opponents to fewer points.

And, to the surprise of most in attendance in El Segundo, they did that...and they did it in dominating fashion. KYCAT erased the deficit faced by the Valiants in the 3rd quarter...by scoring nine points and holding the usually strong performing ToyCarJunkie scoreless. Suddenly, the Valiants were up by 3 points. AMH412 then poured it on...scoring 14 points while ALSO keeping his Rambler opponent off the board. In the end, it turned out to be a bit of a blow out...with the Plymouth Valiants winning in their first ever GreyyCup appearance...42 to 25.

In the end, the Valiants won this game with the fewest points that a team has ever won a championship with...as they competed against a team that scored the fewest points ever scored in a championship.

With no specific captain to hoist the trophy, the GreyyCup goes to everyone in Plymouth...who are celebrating their victory tonight...as they are very proud of the new

Son of a bitch. The one time I need everyone to show up and pick is the time only half of my teams bothers to come to work. D'oh! While I congratulate the Valiants on their win, they were lucky.

Next season things will change.

Voltron, out.

Well thats sort of a slap in the face. A team with no captain wins.
