About

Race mountain speedway is an open lane fat track road course. It begins at the top with the 3DBotMaker Fat Track Start Gate, goes downhill through two 180 degree turns, and ends at the sizzler fat track lane reducer from the vintage California 500 Race Set. It also features a custom install of the 3DBotMaker HW Track Timer which works great for qualifying tournaments and keeping track of top speed records.

After my first attempt at downhill racing on the Fat Track, I was immediately hooked. I love the realistic racing action with cars changing lanes, loosing control and crashes. My first goal was just to make a larger track, but after I bought some green carpet to cover the frame, I decided to go with a mountain theme.

Underneath the carpet are some plastic shelves. I cut the legs to get the proper slant. Some 2x4 were used to mount the start gate and to support the downhill ramp. Trees, signs, rv park, grandstands and barriers all helped to bring Race Mountain Speedway to life.

The track is used for the 3DBotMaker Diecast Racing League on my youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/3Dbotmaker), so I designed it to be easy to film races. The start gate has a fishing line that goes down through a plastic pipe under the carpet to a handle. There are 3 GoPros mounted along the course at the start, 1st turn, and finish. A fourth camera is handheld to track the cars as they go down the course.
