Pro Stock Challenge

So I just thought I would toss up an idea I've had for awhile to see if there would be any interest in this....

How about a race for Pro Stock cars of any era?

- Maximum Weight 60 grams

- 5 spoke fat rear wheels only. Madfast style skinnies up front only.

- Drilled rivets

To be considered a Pro Stock car the entry(ies) must have a hood scoop, rear wing (Some exceptions with older Pro Stocks that never had wings) & parachute pack. Start date sometime in April next year?

EDIT: Here is another idea I had. Maybe the races in the series could be ran by hosts with timed tracks, allowing for a true Pro Stock qualifying system.Any amount of cars could be sent in, but only the fastest 16 at each track would race that weekend. Three qualifying sessions would be ran at each track and the cars will each have their fastest time used as their qualifying time. And the pairings would go #1 vs. #16, #2 vs. #15, #3 vs. #14, so on & so on.... Maybe even let the higher qualifying racer get lane choice during rounds?

Comments / ideas / questions welcome!

Skinny wheels up front like on Mad Fast? The original gasser wars had this...I was not part of that race, but would love a race with skinny wheels.

Pro Stocks are cool! And I like that it is from any era...what comes to mind for me are the older cars. I've always like Bill "Grumpy" J

enkins, 'Grumpy's Toy' Vega.

But, it might be tough getting a Vega casting up to 75 grams...just my 2 cents.

Yep, Skinny wheels like on the front of Madfast. Narrowed FTEs like Smitty makes could be allowed also. Any wheel as long as the fronts are narrow.

Most Pro Stock bodies are lower than regular cars so I understand that it could get difficult to pack all that weight inside one. How about 60g Max. instead?

  • I think 60 grams might work a little better...especially if I build a vega! — 72_Chevy_C10

I like the timed qualifying session idea, but what we miss out on week to week is being able to tune the cars...like the real guys do. Not just a change in tracks, but a change to the car. A mail in series just does not work that way.

I agree that narrowed ftes should be an advantage over the skinny fronts... If this series happens..I'll be keepin it real with Mad Fast fronts

Running over castings in my head, Camaro, mustang, firebird, pick up, vega, focus, .... Those newer mustangs have a good wheelbase....hmmm

IMO...

I don't see many other racers narrowing their FTEs... it is a pain... but the mad fast wheels are slow to say the least I would think it a big disadvantage not to narrow FTEs... I feel you should restrict the fronts so it is closer to fair for all... no FTEs please...

I know that the 'skinnies' in the front are what make a Pro Stock look like a Pro Stock...but, what about having to run the small diameter tires in the front in stead? You'd have to run 'Big and Littles' , parachute, etc...but the performance wouldn't suffer as much as with the skinnies.

Just a thought :)

Chris (TE) Makes a good point there about not being able to tune the cars each weekend. I guess we could leave the qualifying part out. We can just run it like a regular RLD race but with Pro Stocks.

Another skinny front wheel racers could use would be the new High Speed wheels (Although they aren't the best looking and aren't easy to find.) I will change the rules to skinny Madfast fronts. I don't know if any of you guys have seen this but Hot Wheels is also coming out with a new skinny 5 spoke wheel, on the front of the next COPO Camaro release. Those could be allowed also since they shouldn't be too hard to find on the pegs. I will change the wheel rule to 5 spoke fat rears only and skinny SK5 or 5 spoke (factory narrowed) fronts only.

Chris (72 Chevy C10) Also got me thinking a little. Smaller diameter fronts can be considered, but he Madfast fronts are usually smaller diameter than alot of wheels anyway, so using the skinnies could be the best of both worlds. Skinny fronts do put a damper on speed most of the time from my experience with them, but I guess that is part of the reason it's a Pro Stock Challenge  :D

  • check out burle-esque, "tall" skinnies out front — model40fan
  • Hmmm.... you're right. I don't know if many racers here ave that casting though, it's a bit of an oddball. — KandORacing

Yup, I'm already planning my Grumpy Jenkins tribute Camaros! Give it a little time to evolve..everyone is busy with the holidays :)

And TE, I will need some skinnies for the front when things start rolling.

That looks cool already TE! Can't wait to see the Grump's cars when you get them done Chris!

Going to be Chevrolet products representing the K & O team. Going to get Jason Line to drive our cars :-)

EDIT: Once this gets enough interest I will post the official 2015 Pro Stock Challenge thread for rules, results, pre-series trash talk, build progress pics, etc.
