1st Annual Raceway Park “Rip & Roll” Stock Eliminator Shootout presented by Sal’s Speed Shop

In the spirit of one of the most exciting classes in drag racing, this is a challenge for STOCK cars fresh from their cards.
This is my first time hosting a mail-in event and I will do my best to ensure that I earn your trust so that you all are confident in me and participate in future races.
Rules & restrictions
- Stock entries only
- 57g maximum weight
- 3.25in. long x 2in. tall x 1.25in. wide
- Limit 1 entry per household
- Retail axles and wheels only. FTE/NPA axles allowed.
- None
- Cars must arrive sealed on their cards
Dates & deadlines
All entries must be received by the host before Saturday, 2/28/2026. Racing is scheduled for Saturday, 3/7/2026. Results will be posted on or after that date as is convenient for the host.
How to enter
Contact the tournament host to get the shipping address for entry.
Include at least $5.00 for return shipping if you want your entries back. If money for return shipping is not included with an entry, the car will become property of the race host.
Include a Race Entry ID slip with your entry
Track
The track is a two-lane scale 1/8th mile drag strip. It is 16’ overall with the timed section being 10.35’. Timing is measured electronically. Starting gate will launch both cars simultaneously.
Race format and scoring
This race is limited to 32 entries. This will be a single-elimination tournament. A car will move on in the bracket only when it wins two races in a row. Cars will alternate lanes between each race.
The car that wins the final race will be declared the winner. Race host has final decision in all races.
Bracket seeding will be random.
Penalties/DNF
Cars are given a grace of 1g over the stated weight limit to account for variance in scales.
If a car fails to meet any of the restrictions listed above, the car will not qualify for victory. Offending cars will still race. Finish position and any prize will go to the runner-up in the case of the penalty car winning.
Cars that fail to run or fit on the track, or that happen to break during racing, will forfeit their matches. Cars that arrive broken will attempt to be minimally repaired before the racing begins. Cars that break during racing will not be repaired or replaced.
Prizes
The name of the winner will go on the Raceway Park Wall of Fame.

Good morning! I would like to send a car in for your race. I have some Stock cars in my collection, so I should be able to find one that will qualify with the weight. However, are you allowing weight for the package?
I have a couple of opened Stock cars that I use on my test track and they weigh in at 59g for one and 61g for the other. Obviously I won't send either one of those new in the package as when you open them, they will be over your 57g limit.
If packaging can range from what I have read from 11g to 13g, I will need to find a Stock car (Nascar) that does not weigh over 68g (57g car & 11g pkg) to help insure that when it is opened it will be under 57g to qualify to race. I don't want to send a car that weighs 68g in the package, have you open it and we find out the packaging weighed only 9g so the car will weigh 59g. :-(
Just wanted to be clear that the weight you are using is the weight after it gets out of the package, and if it is over, it can still race, just can't be a winner. Clarification is asked and appreciated.

- I wouldn’t discourage it. A stock Hot Wheels 66 Nova Gasser with rubber tires holds the track record. Ya never know — Sals_Speed_Shop

Please forgive me for not addressing your concerns and questions on this thread. I posted my race thinking it would show on the schedule and that anyone interested would have clicked the "Contact the tournament host" link to reach me there. A few of you have and I answered in a timely manner.
I chose to host a "rip and roll" tournament for my first race based on the recommendation of the site host because it's easy. I used most of the verbage from the template he made that you all are probably familiar with, yet there seems to be some ambiguity and some of you have questions that I will address here.
The weight of the car with or without the card seems to be the biggest concern. The tournament template defaulted to 57g. It doesn't say weight with or without the card, so I assumed that is the car only. Here is what the template says:
"What weight class should you choose? Generally speaking, most cars that you buy at the store fall between 35-45g. Anything under 35g is considered "lightweight" and anything over 60g falls into the "heavyweight" category. If you're allowing modified entries, then a heavier limit around 57-60g is a good start."
Since this event is not for modified cars, and stock cars weigh 35-45g I thought the 57g weight limit was fair. Should I change that rule to appease everyone? I stated the width of my lanes, so as long as your car is not a Monster Jam truck and fits inside a 1 3/8" track it will perform well.
Which brings me to the next questions: Can a car be stock and not carded? Does it have to be a nascar stock car? Can it have rubber tires or only plastic?
The term "stock" means nothing other than "not modified." If a car is sealed in its card, it is stock because it came that way from the factory. Did it come with rubber tires from the factory like Hot Wheels real riders or Johnny Lightning cars have? Yes? Then it's stock and legal.
Lastly, any brand is legal so long as it fits the dimensions stated. The rules do not say Hot Wheels only, so Matchbox, Johnny Lightning etc are allowed.
The final thing I want to address is a personal thing. It's clear this is my first time hosting and though your questions are valid, the technicalities and impatience I have experienced is unsettling. I reached out to the site manager for guidance and have not heard back yet. I've seen the flaming that occurs on forums like this and it's discouraging how quickly some people can turn on others. I'm here for the same reason as you. It's fun. I want to share my track with you all so you can share the fun with me.
