I think you are doing fine. Your intro and messaging shows that this is your first hosted race, so everyone understands that. The templates are examples and can be expanded as necessary by the host.
For me, if you have a weight limit, then of course as a rule, I want to follow it. While any car under 57g works for most cars, l am someone who may want to get the most they can out of a car that they can't touch or modify. I have cars out of the package that are 50g, 60g, and a couple of 70g; all came from being opned out of a new package. And yes, they weighed more with package on which is estimated at around 12g. These cars would not be able to qualify of course, just examples of what is out there when we go to choose which car to send in to race.
With all these variances, you are not going to know this right out of the shoot. Someone like me would like to find a car that I like, that will be right at 56 or 57 grams based on the entry rules; but I have to guess how much weight my packaging is so I don't go over the limit after you open it.
This is where the variance and clarification is asked of the host as it is their race. What will be 'your' criteria for the weight limit?
57g with packaging and all cars will be maxed at about 45g out of package? This seems fair, as it allows everyone to weigh the car with packaging and know they qualify.
57g out of package, and hope your car that weighs 70g with package comes under the 57g to qualify assuming your package is 13g? This is a guess and the safe route would be to get a car that is 66g with packaging, in case your packaging only weighed 9g for some weird reason.
What if the packaging only weighed 11g? The car would be 59g and not qualify, but the racer had no way to guaranteed how much the packaged weighed.
The difference is are we racing cars at up to 57g out of the package, or are we racing cars that will be about 45g out of the package?
This is your decision as the host. If you are trying to get 57g max out of a car out of the package, maybe something like: Cars will be weighed with packaging on and are not to exceed 70g. Or even something like: Cars will be weighed out of the package, be aware that packaging weight can vary.
The first one set the rule, and is clear. The second one is a guess on the racer's part of how big of a chance do they wish to go on weight to get as much weight as possible, yet not go over when packaging has been opened.
Yeah, the above is a big windy and long, but I get that way sometimes. :-) I just wanted you to know what I was thinking when trying to find a car for this race. I want to follow the rules you have, but I also would like to have a car meeting the upper end of your weight limit.
I believe you will get your field of racers, we all want to try your track. I am sure these type of things have come up before. Templates are the guide, your rules are how you want to run it. Sometimes, it just needs a bit of clarification.
BTW, I will request address to ship to as soon as I pick out my car and ready to ship. Can't wait to see how your track runs.
- Thank you for explaining all this. It is very helpful and appreciated as I learn the ins and outs of diecast racing. Since some may have already sent their cars, I imagine a rule change raising the max weight limit now might be unfair. What should I do? Keep the limit at 57g without packaging and if an entrant’s car is within a couple grams over not worry about it? — Sals_Speed_Shop

- Leave rule as is; it is the rule. The only thing being questioned was the determination of what was being weighed; Car in Pkg @ 57g, or Car out of Pkg 57g. We the racers will have to determine how close we ride the line on guessing the packing weight. — RacerGnome

Rip-n-race is a easy fun way to get on a race track which is essentially random luck on the track. Someone's 38g mainline car with great wheels/axles can smoke the entire field including the Ultra-Hots and heavies. At least that's how I approach it - after a few minutes of searching ...... boom
