1st Widowmaker Run Tournament - July 2020

WidowmakerRun Thursday, 6/4/2020

Using my own cars only......Sometime in July, I'll do my first tournament.  Just giving a heads up to keep an eye on my youtube channel in a month.  Widowmaker Run

Update as of 6/4/2020.

- I finished with the inner guard rails on all the turns and high sidewalls on the areas where cars were falling off, so it's as good as it's gonna get as far as keeping the cars on the track.

- I need to wire up the start gate and traffic light.

- I need to make camera mounts, 9 cameras total, to get 100% coverage of the track.

- I need to build the start/finish overhead lines, it's a pre-printed hot glue fold and build kind of gate, nothing too fancy.

- I finished my tournament board.  This will track the tournament progress with an actual physical location of the cars with their status in a tournament, not just a chart or excel file.

- I am working on my video editing skills, at first it won't be that great, but I'll get better as we go. I'm debating on how much time I want to spend on editing/adding sound and noises or voiceover, of just do it more plain with simple background music. Probably simple at first just to get used to editing.

- Future plans include:

- An "oversize vehicle" starting gate that starts after the first 180 turn. This will allow me to race large vehicles up to 2 inches wide or so, no restriction on length, and no restriction on weight. I have 2 large semi trucks that work great and are super fast, but don't fit the stock hotwheels track that i have on my starting gate. So a separate start gate is needed to run large vehicles. I don't think anyone else has done this yet, so it will be fun and new for everyone.

- Lighting directly next to/over the track for night racing.

Awesome track man. Nice work on the build. Looks like a lot of fun!

Hey Man,

I don't see any issue with just having music over the video to begin with. It will certainly save you a ton of time in the editing. I can't remember if your editing software allows for multicam setup? This will make your editing much easier as well, as you can just sync all your footage at the start and then just cut from camera to camera as they pass - saving you a ton of time.

  • Good advice! Especially when using many cameras. Some sort of remote start and stop for the cams could be nice as well — FlatRabbitRacing
