Super impressed with work you guys have done over the last year!

  • I'm super slow at scenery lol. Especially hosting races and building cars for other races at the same time — ManiacMotorsports

I painted this backdrop... But I'm not what you'd call an accomplished painter. So, what do you think would look better? This sort of cartoonish hand-painted backdrop or just plain sky? And yes, either way I'm going to paint over the edges (on the sky section) of the individual pieces so they line up better.

  • Yo! This is amazing work and anything in the back is better than nothing, however, I think it looks great! Keep pushing it! — rush_racing_league
  • run with this, looks great, and ya didn't print it, ya painted it — dr_dodge
  • This looks great, clean and simple. — ChaseFamilyRacing
  • Looks fine. Now do a cartoonish southwestern scene, and add in a couple of open ACME crates ..... — SpyDude
  • Southwestern is for Diamondback Wash... — ManiacMotorsports

WOW! There is a lot of work and effort here! Great job!!

Your background scenery will most often be a blur as the camera tracks the cars, so impression matters more than precise accurate detail for the biggest portion of the show

The rock face is excellent, what did you use, foamboard? Great touches of greenery there, quite convincing!

Remember, at one point in fleshing out the diorama for Shavano Mountain, even Mark at GTR had concerns of backdrop painted hills looking like "paint by numbers" and this is where again impressions mean more in the final video edit. It suffices as is. The audience perceives the needed signal to hold firmer an idea supporting the whole

In some future if the stars are right, you may be filming in 4K. As it is, I'd say you're on the way to getting more juice from the squeeze without overextending yourself, that's the trap I'll warn you about

I'm an old guy making OLD references, thinking back to the 1960s Star Trek. Set designers spent the money where it most counted, when the thing would see more screen time. Everything else, in the background, just had to be good enough at a glance

  • Thanks. I honestly don't want it to be SUPER realistic. The rock face is 1/2 in insulation board. I'm doing something else for the big cliffs to allow for larger landforms rather than just small 'divots' — ManiacMotorsports

Revamped runout. Actually works a lot betterTweaked kickout in turn 5 keeps them from spinning out much of the time Did paper mache over cardboard for the cliffs but wasn't satisfied. So ordered plaster cloth and it seems to be working better. Sort of similar to LRL's cliffs.
