But WEIGHT!

EconoCarl Wednesday, 11/9/2011

My scales arrived and I'm ready to put them to use! I'm in the middle of building a team of modifieds for the Hardcore Downhill Series and I'm sitting here wondering about adding weight and how much to add. I know firsthand that too much weight is not so good. Jobe's Super Van spanked my much heavier (weighing in at 195.8g/6.91oz) Super Van on the Austin Diecast Drags 25ft track last month.

I've looked through the forum and blogs here at redlinederby, but I'm curious as to what's actually being done out there if anyone cares to share.

there is a 113 gram class limit with the 2011 H.D.S.... 2012 ? my best finisher is 76.6 grams... but have won with a 109,9 g.... fast fred , 110.0 g winner.....iowa won with a heavy... jason's caddy convert winner ? it's got to be the track !
start a light weight class ?... 30, 40, 50, ? grams... open to different body castings...

I weighed all of the cars when I had them and I was surprised how all over the place the weight was and the best running cars in the league at that point weren't necessarily the heaviest ones.

Just don't go over the weight rules that Jason has in place already.

A "light" class as well as "heavy" class--I like that idea.

big blocks , small blocks or stock, stroked or flathead, hemi .... jason will come up with a neet name... can't wait ! !

I forget what my Caddy weighs, but it's not all that much. I think it's 1oz over stock.

I like to add as much weight as possible, then remove weight here and there during testing to fine tune and balance the car. I use the sliding scale of trial and error.

ditto on the trial and error, luckily for us the cars are a buck... for fun we all ought to post a picture of our junk piles / boxes...
i'ld bet it would make mattel very happy...

You're right Smitty, lucky for us they are a buck ($1.07 at WallyWorld)!

Thanks for all of the replys, guys! Trial and error it will be. I'm putting together a fleet of 11 cars and hope to have a test session before the next Hardcore Downhill Series. All of the cars are different and I'm just adding weight as possible (within the limit!). I took a considerable amount of weight out of the SuperVan too.

Not going to share their identities quite yet! I've got the bodies all painted and plan on having the chassis done next week. To borrow a song title, I will let you know that "He's going the distance, he's going for speed"!!!
