Car Crashes

I think I figured it out, why my cars were crashing. My 25ft board track isn't connected with hinges...the boards just butt up end to end. The problem with using wood, is that it can have a slight bend to it, and not lay flat causing a slight bump at the joints. Solution...I put wooden blocks under every joint and it has all but eliminated the car crashes. I now can jack up the ramp for some FAST racing action without having my cars smack, jump & flip off the track. One of these days I'm going to put some pictures of my "Bunk Bed" board track for all to see.

I've seen posts out there where they use cut rain gutters as lanes

I think somewhere here one of the guys from Central America posted a video where the starting line was in the second story of a building and they raced something like 150 yards! (in rain gutters).

Duh...I finally found another problem with my track. When nailing the 11/16 pieces of wood strips to hold the track down, I failed to secure all the boards together, and make sure they were straight. I simply measured the placement of the first wooden strip and used that as a guide for all the others. The problem is at the joints...if they are not straight, it can cause the cars to smack the wall at the joint and thus flip off the track. So today I'm going to remove and replace the wooden strips that are out of line. O well you live and learn.

I'm trying to learn how to post pictures, so please bear with me. My track isn't done, but it's getting there. Here is what it looked like at our last race. Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

Well done! What's the total length?

The "Bunkbed" track is 25 feet, and is getting a makeover...as soon as I'm able to finish putting the final touches on it, I'll post some more pictures.

Another problem found and solved, with my "Bunk Bed Board" track. I've had numerous problems getting this track straight and true...and just plan figuring it out. (Sometimes things that look simple and easy, are not always so simple and easy. ) I have 25ft of seamless track that I'm running for both lanes, but a number of my cars would crash out at the transition...where the hill meets the straightaway. Well, I did some measuring, and found that my wooden strips that hold my track in place were too close together, thus not giving some of my cars the clearance they needed. To solve this problem, I cut a piece of wood about 5 inches long and just shy of 1 1/2 inches wide...and used this as a jig to make the proper spacing. It's now just enough to hold the track in place without too much pressure. Presto! The problem is now fixed, and all my crashing cars just fly to the finish line.
