Castings call

Sunshine_City_Garage Friday, 7/18/2025

So, I have an idea I'm thinking about pursuing and it requires several small castings of small cars stuff like fiat 500s and the like but I don't know what is out there, anyone know of any small castings? Can be real or fantasy. The idea is simmering and I will let everyone know when it forms a bit more , it was inspired by something I saw on Top Gear.

Not sure what maximum overall length is your goal, but there's a start. Other options exist, but the Fandom Hot Wheels Wiki is a great catch-all source for searching cars -- just have your adblockers running fully before you visit!

hotwheels.fandom.com/wiki/%27Tooned  anything made after 2020 in this list could also fit your needs

Lancia Stratos

  • A crying shame we don't see more of this racing, even when the theme of the event is rally! Really cherish the few I have! — Chris_Hood
  • I'm aiming to modify one for sure, as it's a cool little car — GBURacing
  • I have one I'm working on... — G_ForceRacing

Custom VW Beetle

Lil' Roar

Porsche 904 Carrera

'33 Ford Roadster

Fiat 500D Modificado

Just to name a few.

Take a measurement of the wheel base which you plan on using, and let the community do the rest...I dunno what the measurement of the Fiat is, but I imagine anything Tooned would fall under that.

These are my cars in the garage, not sure if any of them are worth adding to your list.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions!  This has given me a great direction for my latest idea.  Bit of background, in addition to diecast racing and restoring one of my many other hobbies is miniature wargaming, in a nutshell think Warhammer 40K (or an even better example would be Gaslands).  I play many mini games and am in the process of designing and writing a few of my own.  Gauntlet Series X with the ski jump theme reminded me of a Top Gear episode where they crammed a bunch of rockets in the back of a Mini cooper and sent it down a ski jump.  This lead to thinking about the Top Gear episode where they played Soccer with small cars and a really big ball. So naturally I combined the two into my idea...

Diecast Soccer Derby!  This will be a game similar to Gaslands in using diecast cars, but playing Soccer instead. In the episode they all used small cars for manueverability, which is why I was asking about small cars to keep the feel for the source material.

Some highlights that I have so far:

  • 2 player game
  • Each player will have a team of 6 cars
  • Each car will have drivers with different abilities within the game
  • different types of cars will have pros/cons for different play styles
  • Will be able to play one off games or entire seasons
  • movement will be with templates
  • inital idea will have 7 teams for players to choose from, each with their own play style
  • Car/team design will be suggested in the game but totally open to and encourage player creativity.

I'll be playing around with the basic mechanics this weekend.

Thoughts?  Ideas?  Constructive criticism both positive and negative greatly appreciated!

Initial 7 teams would be using the below list of cars

  1. Tooned Mazda RX-3
  2. '85 Honda City Turbo II
  3. Fiat 500D
  4. Lancia Stratos
  5. Lil Roar
  6. Cat-A-Pult
  7. Tooned NIssan Skyline

Second round of teams

  1. '86 Toyota Van (Soccer Moms!)
  2. '70 Custom Honda N600
  3. Mazda Autozam with the big wheels
  4. Tooned VW Golf Mk. 1
  5. Tooned Dodge Charger
  6. Kool Kombi or RV there yet
  7. Tooned Porsche 911

The Catapult, a metal/metal very solid little roller.

  • Thanks for reminding me on this GBURacing, looking over my initial list I have decided to move this one in place of the Tooned Manga Tuner, which is a bit samey samey with the Nissan Skyline. Rolling will not have a big factor in the game because it is played on a flat surface. The cars are more of a game counter. Thanks for the suggestion!! — Sunshine_City_Garage
  • My pleasure — GBURacing

Hey GBURacing I found a Cat a pult yesterday at a antique store, that really is a sweet little casting! Heavy for its size. Thanks for letting me know!

  • That's fantastic, and yes, they're are a solid little slug — GBURacing

The 2004 Super Gnat is one of my favorite small cars...

Early versions are metal-on-metal. The windshield and roof are one piece which lowers the cG on metal chassis cars. They accept lubrication well and are surprisingly stable for a short wheelbase platform.
