As part of May Mahem there will be 4 classes raced. The Feature Stock class will be Lightweights this month. The Builder's Challenge class will be the Gaslands race. We will also be racing the Open Modified class and the Modified Street class.

Builder's Challenge: Gaslands

This month's Builder's Challenge race is inspired by the role-playing game Gaslands. (If you don't know anything about Gaslands you should really check it out. Another fun way to play with your Hot Wheels - gaslands.com/)

In Gaslands, Earth is under Martian occupation. The war left much of Earth destroyed and its population enslaved by the corporations of Mars. Earth is a ghetto. All money goes to Mars. The internet is gone, but television continues under the global control of The Network. The jewel in The Network's crown is Gaslands: broadcasting amateur and profesional death races from across the world as teams battle for a place in the prime-time international final.

Racers should try to make their cars look like Post-Apocalyptic death race cars. So what does that mean? At the very least cars need to have some kind of weapon. It could be spikes, guns, rocket launchers, or something of the like. The weapon is the only real requirement, however using parts from multiple cars, making them look old/dirty/rusty, banged up, etc. is encouraged.

These cars will be racing on the D64 Banger Track. Here is some footage from last year.

I'm curious to see the lightweights event. I don't know if I'll enter, because I honestly wouldn't know what to send.

  • Nearly any modern mainline? You can go ahead and plan on tons of Evos and Zoomins — Uncle_Elvis
  • So basically it'll be another hot off the shelf race. — CrazyEights
  • I will be surprised if it is not. Rust Belt put on a light weight race where the limit was 20g I think. Was fun watching generic plastic cars with Hot Wheels wheels racing — Uncle_Elvis

Cool can I still send a car in ?

They have to be in by May 1st

Coming your way!

Hopefully I'll be able to get a car in for the Gaslands race.

Not sure if Robbie reads these posts but I need clarification on the Modified Street class. I see Fairmonts with filled side windows. Not sure what they are filled with but I fill mine with JB Weld. Is this allowed? I see nothing in the rules that prevent it.

  • Mine just have either clear tape or metallic tape covering the window opening,no filling — JACRacing
  • I see what you are saying, My understanding is that is has to look like a car you would see in the streets. One thing I can see is that you dont have is no windshield and no windows. I think if you would of left a windshield frame and a door window frame it would look more like a street car. NOTE: This is just my opinion on it...... Just use it in the Modified Race! — RIVERA_RACING
  • Thanks for the reply. Turns out I changed the body and I actually think the car was better off for it. Instead of 4 extra grams up high in the windows I was able to put a stock body on and use the 4 grams in the chassis to lower the center of gravity — BlueLineRacing
  • so are you saying, it gonna be even fasterthan before? Darn YOU!!! UGH>>>> — RIVERA_RACING

So do you think this is a no go? It isn't really clear in the rules.

Hi Robbie,

When talking to RP, he said you allow up to a 2 gram allowance in your races.

For the 40g stock class, will 41 or 42 gram stock entries be allowed to race?

Thank you,

Bo

  • I doubt you’ll get an answer here Bo. I’ve heard it was a half gram allowance. I’d like an answer on this question also — BlueLineRacing
  • You start getting near 42 grams on stock you’re starting to get into F-150 territory — BlueLineRacing
  • Yeah im being very very literal with the 40g rule this go around even to the point of not sending in a car that's .2 over. Usually that's good enough by me but to keep with the "spirit" of this race I'll stick to 40g and under this go around. It's made testing interesting for sure tho! Plenty of speed out there under 40g's. — Mattman213
  • I’m curious about this as well. I have a car that weighs in at 40g on the nose, but it hits 40.1g on occasion. — ScaleRacingChannel
  • That's cool guys and thanks! I just wanted to make sure if I'm sending cars under 40 grams only to learn that others had sent in cars over 40 grams. — Your_Nightmare
  • Bo, I personaaly would go off of what is written. It states 40 grams or Under.... I personally would try and stay withen the 40.5 grams and not go over that. In my eys, I am still in the 40 grams area. — RIVERA_RACING
  • Hi Rivera, yeah both of my cars are 37 grams. My thing was if a 1 or 2 gram allowance over 40 is in place, that changes everything. My cars have been shipped, but there 41 and 42 gram cars that would shame anything 40 grams and under. If he holds to the 40g limit, that would be the right call. — Your_Nightmare

I think 40.1 is fine Brandon but I can't say I'm sure. My Stingers are 38 and 39 grams.

I personally go by the standard rule, 1g allowance would be 40.9999999999 once you hit 41, in my book its over-weight. I know, I almost been disqualified in a few races.
