DIY Custom Display Case - Inexpensive!

vidmouse Tuesday, 9/25/2012

I have been so impressed by a lot of the nice display cases I've seen,
and wanted to do something for my small collection w/o spending
a fortune.

Found some foamboard at Dollar Tree --- 20x30" sheets, $1 apiece.
It took 3 sheets (really, 2 1/2) to do the following:

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

As you can see, the second one came out a little straighter/better than
the first. Each case holds 85 cars.

Thanks!

I put some cars in there for now just to check fit and weight, and then my daughter started
messing around with it... I'm sure over time it'll get changed around a lot,
which is fine.

How are you hanging it on the wall? Nails right into the walls and will it support the weight overtime?

I shot two screws through it into the wall. Seems to be holding for now but I guess we'll see over time.
They're hanging right above a couch, which should cushion things if it falls...

Built a 3rd case last night. The two cases on the right are for RLD cars.

Hmmmm, A smaller version in a shipper would work out nicely shipping from track to track, yea?

Would you be interested in making that for an autistic boy? If so, please let me know how much and any other details.

Thanks,

Jenny
