Drilling & Tapping

tnfishdaddy Wednesday, 3/16/2016

I want to quit using glue to put my cars back together. I want to try tapping the posts and start using screws. What do I need to shop for? More specifically, what sizes of taps and screws do I need to shop for?

Several guys on here drill and tap there bodies...ISwingPing and WizardofOz come to mind. I just picked up a 2mm tap and screws for something else, and they look to be a good size. There are some glues that can be used that will come back apart...Smitty can tell you what he uses. Personally, I very seldom take a car back apart..if I need to, it is pretty easy to re-drill them.

My 2 cents :)

Here's a youtube video slide show on the tools you need to do wheel swaps. He doesn't really do it for speed, so he uses different axles that you would for racing, but everything else pretty much applies. I know for a while he was selling little bags with taps, screws and stuff for about $25. don't know if he still does.

Don't know if it's the same video or not, but here's a post from before when it was asked...

(And just a reminder, while the search here isn't Google, it can find posts when you give it some good words)
