What does the upgrade include?

The upgrade is a pack of extra track (4 pieces) and a power supply. The track sells for $20 and the power supply for $25 from the Drag Tracks site. http://expertracers.com/order.php

The set I got from them for review had the extra track and it was worth it. You know how it goes, the longer the better when it comes to race tracks. The power supply is a good addition too since you'd otherwise need batteries, and if you plan on using the track a lot then you'd probably go through batteries pretty quick.

I had to extend the cable on mine.

I didn't have any problems with my cord reaching the end with all the track, but you can extend it. And the smart thing is that it was designed with what is essentially a phone cord, so you can easily and cheaply by extensions...so if you get a lot more track or mod it to use your own, you can still make the finish line.

I may have a longer reach to my finish line because instead of just adding track to the end, I also shortened the track between the start line and ramp to just a single piece of track then added that track to the overall length. So I now have a short drop followed by a long run to the finish. My fastest cars are now taking more than 2" to reach the finish. Extending the cord was not so straight forward. I found that the individual wires in the extension cable do a crossover from one end to the next. I had to remove an end and crimp a new modular connector on in order to set the wires back to parallel.

I have had some interest from some of my racing participants about this track, supposedly it's being advertised in Jeg's Catalog! I've always wanted to keep my set up basic and not have any electronics but this have peaked my interest slightly...mainly for the foot start and timer.

The starter and finish line are really nice. I immediately started to think about how to mod that finish to make it worth with my existing track stuff......but I think I might talk with Wes at Expert Toys to see what's possible as a separate product. Would be cool and would sell good, I think.

Possible to just lay the orange track over the black plastic and extend the finish line as needed? That way you could have as long or short a track as you wanted....hmmmmm....

I don't see why that wouldn't work...but then it just gets into do you really want to spend $80+ on the full set when all you need is the finish line?

I mailed Expert Toys tonight to see if they're interested in design a stand-alone finish line product. Hopefully something might come of it and then all us DIYers will have a simple, reliable, affordable finish line. Keep your fingers crossed...
