Fly high Sunny

Kingjester Thursday, 10/17/2024

Like any pet owner we cherish the time we hold with our little companions, and sadly this morning I had to suddenly say goodbye to one of my own. My pet Cocketiel sunny, who I've had for more than a decade. Was suddenly found on the floor of his cage this morning unmoving, it was very sudden but I'm happy I was able to provide him with comfortable living during his twilight years. Sure he may have bitten my fingers more time then I could count, and he may have been loud, he may have been a menace, but he was MY menace. Fly high sunny, Fly high.

I'm sorry for your loss, Jester :( RIP Sunny

My condolences... I only have one bird story to relate.
I spent some time in Saudi Arabia before the first gulf war installing the radars on the Air defense systems there... While in Khamis Mushayt near the Yemen border, the local Souk or market had a rather large and varied bird vendor. My room mate picked up a beautiful African Grey Parrot and a post for him to sit on with a cage when needed. So we had him for a few days and everything was fine. He hardly ever spent any time in the cage and was quite happy sitting on his post. One day after work, we arrived at the compound to find the door slightly ajar. Apparently the house boys failed to close it completely when they finished their morning chores. We were worried momentarily but found the bird on his perch but the house was quite disheveled! We looked around a bit and then heard a loud meow from under the couch. Apparently the cat got in and the bird and the cat had a confrontation with the bird getting the better of it! So we tossed the cat out and thought nothing more of it. The next day we left and put the bird in the cage just in case... when we got home, we heard loud meowing again! We looked all around for that cat but never found one... we then realized the parrot had learned to meow after listening to that cat! From then on it was us trying to teach the bird to say here kitty kitty... meow!

sorry long story... but all that to say birds can and do make good companions... sorry for your loss.

Very sorry for your loss. My family has 2 cockatiels, so I feel your pain.

Sorry to hear your lost your Aussie mate, Sunny. They do make such wonderful companions.

I love birds, "in a former lifetime" I bred Australian National Champion winning budgerigars. Cheers

Sorry KingJester.  It is never easy losing a pet.   10 years is never enough but you'll remember him always.

  • Yeah I had him for 11 years so he’s been around for majority of my life so far, but I’m happy I was able to have him around for so long. — Kingjester
