Frustrations
Hey everyone,
I have been a bit absent lately. I'm fine, but I can't say the same for my 11 year old computer.
the last Goat Hill i did, went to compile it, said 30 min. 5 hrs later is finally went,
after repeated restarts. was running at 3 f/s at the end
I have had the next race in first round of edit, and can't get it to not lock up the machine
it is frustrating as I am on SSI with limited funds. can't just go buy a replacement at this time.
My time is also being spent to get my '72 dart going, so then I can sell my 2011 392 Challenger.
selling it would let me buy a computer, and pay some bills off.
I feel very bad that I can't keep pushing my videos at the moment. it's one of the things I very much enjoy doing.
I tried half a dozen work arounds and nothing worked
Then add that I have a newer tablet, but samsung locked me out of connecting it to my external hard drives.
It seems like everything fights ya anymore.
thanks,
dr

Sorry about your situation, hopefully you can get a resolution.
Do you have access and can get to all of your raw data, the programs you need, and everything else you would need to put this information on a new computer?
If you do and truly just need a new computer to get back up and running, I believe I have an extra laptop sitting around that might be able to handle the graphics you are trying to accomplish. I will have to look at them to see if any can do graphic type stuff, so it would help if you know the minimum graphic requirement on your editing software.
Let me know if this would be a viable solution and I can review the units sitting here. I would be happy to help you out if it will solve this for you.
Later: I checked and I have this one sitting here: My old computer I upgraded it to WIN10Pro and it has very little hard drive space, but it can use external drives and/or USB Flash type drives. Check the graphic card in this as I am not sure what you need.
Uuugh, sorry you're up against it, Doc. I'm on SSDI and all of my decal designs reside on an 18 year-old iMac using CS3. Once that goes, I may be done with graphic design altogether. My real car isn't running so I'm cutting way back on toy cars. May good fortunes be in both of our favors soon.
As Chris said - don't sweat it and just communicate well. Sorry that folks are struggling with tech issues but as a electrical engineer for Intel in a former life - once you get past 5 - 7yrs on computers you are on borrowed time. All it takes is one microscopic transistor to fail, or one connection thinner than a hair to blow out. And you are done - especially if that transistor is on your hard drive because then your data is unreadable unless the platters are removed and read externally.
In many cases your best bet is to move to a tablet (I'm on a 3yr old basic iPad) and then mainly to cloud storage. Hop on Best Buy or your fav online store and shop for refurbished devices. Best Buy has basic refurb iPads for $100 and $150, Should be similar deals on Android. I pay $2 a month to Apple for a terabyte of iCloud space which is where all my AbbyNormal files live - videos - graphics - decals - etc. Google and Microsoft have similar storage plans.
- Dude, I had a Dell Inspiron tower that lasted FOURTEEN years... damn thing was bulletproof. When the hard drive finally blew out, I swapped in an SSD and reloaded the operating system on it .......... fired right back up. I have it as a spare computer in case mine ever goes down. — SpyDude
- I don't like tablets. for editing goat hill I have a PC, and a 50+ flat screen so I can see. Tablet is too small a screen for me to see clearly for scoring. often I screenshot it and zoom in even more (did you cross the like?) I also use external hard drives so I can empty the mini sd in the gopros. physical cables, card readers, too. I swap in and out depending upon what I need. — dr_dodge
Thanks for the update Dr, I was wondering if you were ok.
Gee, bummer with the computer, and other rl issues, ugh it happens.
Hopefully something will sort itself out soon.Take care.
so, I need to keep you tube active, and also thought
all my first vids were "pump 'n dump" single runs
my gpu was angery but didn't give up
much like me
I have to change dirrections a bit, but my subs deserve honest content
had to humble myself, focus (hahaha, yea right...lol) and start doing one take vid for now

- Great project you got there. That’s the second conversion I seen this year. — alva1370
- Doc I totally understand and I have a real love hate relationship with YT content. And great vs good content is always a battle. The struggle is real — AbbyNormal
- Yep, that will keep you busy! Cheers good luck ! — CutRock_R_Marc_D
Doc, if you need any new curse words I ran out of the old ones building this track. And I can't wait to deal with computer stuff.
Just don't quit.

If you haven't already, get with your racers more directly and give them the word of this situation. No telling if this post will reach everyone involved. Even a text post on YT may not find its way through notifications to all subscribers
Anything that can upset the apple cart of basic living can throw the hosting cart clear across the street! So sorry that technology up and decided to turn on you like this, Doc!
