Hello race fans! It's time to annnounce another tournament! Garden Canyon Run is an outdoor non-timed race course, run rally style with checkpoints along the course. It’s a mix of BluTrak, Crash Racers track, and vinyl plank flooring. A portion is laned, another portion is open, and the final straight is open with no side barriers whatsoever, allowing cars to wander, skid, or tumble off course if drivers can’t control their vehicles.

This is an outdoor track, expect cars racing here to get wet, dirty, and/or muddy!

For the Spring Classic we will be adding about 10 feet in length, and 3 more turns! Cars will be racing straight through the planting bed normally seen in the background of the current opening straightaway. Pics will be made available as the build progresses.

Race format and scoring

All entries get two qualifying attempts at Garden Canyon Run, alternating lanes. There are 5 checkpoints on the course. 1 point will be awarded to each car getting both axles across each checkpoint. (In the case of multiple axles, the outer most axles will be counted as the two axles.) The final 2 checkpoints come in the final open section of track where there are no sidewall barriers. cars must be able to run straight in order to earn these points.

The top 16 qualifiers will move on to a round of 4Up Racing, with 4 cars racing at a time, in 4 groups based upon qualifying points. Points earned in 4Up Racing will be added to qualifying points, and used to seed into the single-elimination bracket tournament, which is Round 3 of the Spring Classic. This Elimination round will be head-to-head, winner moves on, loser goes home. A Spring Classic Champion will be crowned.

Penalties/DNF

If a car fails to meet the size restriction listed above, the car will still race if it can fit through the start gate.

Cars that fail to run or fit on the track, or that happen to break during racing, will forfeit their matches. Cars that arrive broken will attempt to be minimally repaired before the racing begins. Cars that break during racing will not be repaired or replaced. We will always strive for inclusion and parity when it comes to penalties.

Well, I'm almost done editing the Winter Classic championship race, so that means I'll be focusing on the Spring Classic soley in just a couple days. We're going to forgo the Drivers Cup from now on, and just have every racer driving 1 car. So that means we'll have spots for 16 drivers altogether. So far I informally have 6 drivers already onboard. I'll be using this post to keep track of everyone. Please us this post yourself to sign up, ask questions, and follow along.

I'm in the process of redesigning the front half of Garden Canyon Run, and I'll update that here as well. We're adding 3 turns and about 10' of track!

Speak up if you want in on the action! Thanks for your support folks!

Please count me in for two cars with two different drivers!  I've enjoyed the Winter Classic and look forward to the Spring Classic with a modified layout!  You do a great job!

Uncle Elvis:  I hope you send two more cars too!  :D

  • Awesome, thanks! And I'll have your 2 current cars in the mail to you tomorrow. Really enjoyed having them! — AlleyCatRaceClub

I am in for one or two. Let me know what you prefer I do

  • Thanks! Loved having your cars on the track! Please go ahead and send 2 if you want (or more), and name your drivers if you like. I'll assign any cars with no drivers in a post down the line when the time comes. — AlleyCatRaceClub

Follow-up for clarity: for those of you who want to send in cars, send in as many as you like. 16 cars total in the race. If we get more, qualification will limit the field to 16. Keep in mind we'll have 1 car per driver, so name your drivers when you send them in, OR, let them be assigned to viewers later on once all the cars are in.

Our first mail haul for the Spring Classic today! A couple of great looking stock cars that seem to roll nice and straight. I know for a fact someone else is sending in at least one stock car, so we'll run a separate stock class from the modified. But we'll keep everyone together, like LeMans. I love it when the little guys and the big ones get all argy bargy together.

Thanks to team Richter Scale Racing!

Looks like I may have the ability to send another car in :)

Keep an eye out for another Muscle Car from the shop here!

If you are running a stock class, is lube allowed on them?

  • Good question, and yes sir lube is allowed. I've been thinking how to best incorporate the stockers, I think they'll be awarded double points to try to keep them in it. What do you think? — AlleyCatRaceClub
  • If you award double points, let me know before I mail these mods! May be best to go two separate classes with a champion/exhibition match at the end — Uncle_Elvis
  • Sorry, that comment I just made was meant as a reply to you... — AlleyCatRaceClub
  • To clearly answer your question, I'll award double points to stockers. Also, all stockers that end up eliminated will become "highlight/exhibition" cars. Jumps, burnouts, fancy driving challenges. — AlleyCatRaceClub

I want to run the stockers right alongside the mods, I like the mayhem that causes! I've had two different ideas. Double points to stockers (or maybe a multiplier, like 1.5 to boost their points.) Or no extra points, and when/if they don't move on in the tournament they become stunt cars doing jumps and exhibition type stuff between and after races. Everyone still gets some camera time that way.  Thoughts about that?

Also, you still want to use the Silverado and Musclebound from last tournament as cars available to viewers to drive?

Thanks for taking part!

-Chris

  • Doing LeMans style should work. Heads up as always, points accumulated goes into seeding or rank within the class, and some stock will do better than a modified. Say a mix faces off, race one stock gets 2 points and race two mod gets 4 points. Mod wins match 4-2 and now each are ranked accordingly in their division/class (separate standings and BC it is point based it doesn't matter if they win a match against a different class) — pupulesurfer
  • Yeah, let those two roll on in this tourney. — Uncle_Elvis

I'm in. For 2. So any castings are allowed and no weight limit correct?

  • That's correct sir, thank you for asking. Under 2" tall though, and make them look more or less like cars. I'd rather not see a bunch of Grass Chompers or Speed Spiders in the line up if you catch my drift. Thanks! — AlleyCatRaceClub
  • Rs200 and a govner — NDeavers80
  • Looking forward to seeing them! Message me for address when ready. — AlleyCatRaceClub
  • Will do — NDeavers80

if these are ok please send me your address

**Entry is now closed for the Spring Classic**

If we've already spoken about entry, but you haven't yet sent cars in, you can still send them. Please message me if you aren't sure.

We have at least 19 cars in hand currently, with possibly a few more still to come. There will be cars eliminated right out of the gate after qualifying so we can have 16 for the tournament, but based on past history they'll probably be my cars, so no worries friends :-)

I have plans for any cars eliminated at qualifying for use in different aspects of the tournament.

I'm busying myself this weekend with finishing the new track configuration, I'll be posting a video of that progress as well as today's MAIL HAUL. Thanks for your support friends!
