Gasser Challenge Discussion

Jump to first page Jump to last page

I'm in.

e. weight limit? open for discussion but I'm guessing 40 or 50 or 85 gram limit?

I'm leaning towards the 85 grams.

All the other clarified and revised rules look good to me.

Not that it matters to me but Gassers were American made cars. I guess some Anglias' and Fiats as well squeaked through, because they didn't fit the sports car class. Not sure how many pre 1970 Hot Wheels import cars are even available. Just throwing that out there. If anybody wants to build an import Gasser I say do it. I guess they will only be laughed at until they start winning races.

I guess if you really wanted to throw a monkey wrench in there, you could require some kind of interior. That might be limiting, and cause trouble for people trying to add weight.

It would be hard to have an interior and add a lot of weight!

As for the imports (and you know I like the foreign jobs), I say build what you want, pre 1970. The HW Anglias that I've seen had fenders but the Fiats didn't.

I am digging these discussions! I love building gasser style cars anyway.

I guess my Ferrari 458 gasser is out?

You could go with something a little less exotic!
Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

i count 6 confirmed "gastrologists"... just a couple more, maybe a pair o cars each and we have a 16 car elimination...
i'll go out on a limb and predict that any of the 6 would give any help needed to gasserize your choice...
p.m. any of "the SIX" for diecast carving advice, what bases work, what bodies lend themselves to being gassed... where to get the axle width you need...
. front axle prep; prossess code... lava-crest-dial _ _
.as far as weight, the under 35G's cars have been competitive... I.M.O. split the 40 to 50 and set it at 45G'S...
The heavier cars beat up the front axles, gassers will have semi exposed axles...

CHECKED WITH A MOPARIST... FIRST 2 YEARS OF BARRACUDAS WORE both BARACUDA and "VALIANT" BADGES...
skitso'

Of the top of my head that's a Barracuda and around '70 they changed it to just 'Cuda.

Smitty brings up a good point here, what do the rest of y'all think?
Let's discuss maximum weight a little more.

IMO an idea number of entries to get this series started would be 16 (8 racers x2).
If more were interested we could try to get a 32 car field, but there aren't that many talking!

Possible races layouts:
If 16 cars, have two 8 car heats, top four of each heat advance to Final Eight.
If 32 cars, have four 8 car heats, top two of each heat advance to Final Eight.

How many do we have that will commit to building cars for this series?

For those 'stock' racers out there a Passin' Gasser is RTR (ready to race)!
Are there other stock cars out there with skinnys up front that I'm not aware of?
