That's one HOT '57 Carl. Can't wait to see your 'faster' gassers -the ones that are going to California to compete.
My two 'entries' just got their first coat of paint. And yes Carl, one of them is an Oldsmobile (after your comment, I just had to go back and create a better/faster version of the one pictured above). Here's the gasser that it will replace.
Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
This one had legs...it wasn't the fastest out of the gate, but it sure made up the pace down the stretch.

Looks so sweet with the matching red wheels. but I didn't think we could use those type of rear wheels? Maybe I'm wrong...

Here's what I found in the rules ...
c. rear wheels: no FTE, HSW or Redline wheels, axles must remain one piece (no FTE axles)
The Firebird has "Open Hole 5 Spoke" and not FTE. I hope I'm right on this and didn't miss something

FTE wheels are goldish in color, but I have been wrong before!

My mistake, disregard this old man's musings....

if the axles drop into the slots the old axles were in, then they are not FTE's...the diameter of the FTE axle is larger than 5 spokes etc.[ plating ] i have had to use a hacksaw as a file to widen the slot for the FTE's... i don't think you can slide 5 spokes onto FTE axles..i been wrong before

I've never noticed that FTE axles were any different from normal, never had to open up a chassis for FTE swaps.

Is anyone else concerned about front end damage? I think there could be an issue with the configuration of these gasser cars. The somewhat-exposed front axles with the skinny wheels set up high seem to lend themselves to bending if banged around in a catch box or similar receptacle. If anyone else thinks this might be an issue, the softest landing I've used is simply a folded towel at the end of the track. The cars slip in between the folds without banging around or even touching one another.
Would love to get some thoughts on this.

I use towels to stop the cars on both my tracks, using the catch trap, or the loop back. The cars have not been damaged yet and still look new.
