Minis not allowed, but Fords are encouraged. Ironic.

Do we get bonus points for actually British cars (Corgi, Husky, vintage Matchbox, etc)?

Hi IDR! I hate to be that guy, but one more oddball request: is a Power Surge ok?  It's a HW original casting, so not based off of a real-world British car, but when working on it today I noticed that it is constructed for left-side traffic.  Basically, I find myself with a car in want of a race and - since the design I've made seemed to fit this race best - I figured it couldn't hurt to ask :)

Reference photo is of car before custom paint job (though in the end she's still a Gryffindor).

  • Thanks for asking, I'm excited to see you thinking about it so far ahead! I waited most of the day b/c I wanted to think it over, and unfortunately I have to say no. I'd really like to keep this British themed, and I think allowing this casting would open it open to pretty much anything, getting away from the theme I'm trying for. Also, Go Slytherin! — IndianaDiecastRacing
  • Thanks for thinking about it. :) I knew it was a longshot. As a Slytherin, I'm sure you can respect the hustle. ;) Also, I just came up with a theme for my submissions... Looks like I need to dig out some British cars and get started! October will be here... Soon? :D — Xanthippe
  • indeed it will! — IndianaDiecastRacing

I'm sad Mini's aren't allowed and I have nearly every casting of them lol! I don't have any other British one's so guess I'm off to see what I can find!

  • Actually, I have a Ford Escort RS1600 - wasn't that the Anglia replacement? Would that qualify? — pupulesurfer
  • I'm glad you asked cos I was wondering the same thing — Spirit_Of_64
  • I'd prefer something else.....that casting gets a lot of track time already — IndianaDiecastRacing
  • That being said I won't ban it — IndianaDiecastRacing
  • You got it, I'll do my best! — pupulesurfer

How about fantasy cars based on specific real world ones, such as the Fish'd & Chip'd(Jaguar Mark X) and Cockney Cab II(Austin FX4)?

  • Fish'd & Chipd is not a fantasy casting. As much as I complained about it being allowed in the American Muscle Lowrider event, that is a British car. It is customized but it is not fantasy like a tooned casting or animal looking one. All that said, I am not the Host and in a side note, no way would I send a Lowrider down that track. Have you watched the turtle van races? — Uncle_Elvis
  • I'd want to review on a case by case basis, but yeah I'm good with those two — IndianaDiecastRacing
  • Did you see how my Cadillac did? Might want to rethink a low rider lol — NDeavers80

I've never entered a race before and looking at my collection found out a Bentley Continental GT3 which tops the scales at 39.52g. But it is very low when it comes to ground clearance would that be a problem? Am I better off looking for another casting?

(Also I assume the Mini ban bans MINIs - the BMW ones - as well?)

  • Yes, probably.....do you have a picture of the mini bmw? — IndianaDiecastRacing
  • It is just the Mini Cooper we see today, made by BMW. — pupulesurfer
  • Yes probably the Bentley is too low or yes probably the modern MINI is banned? :) — Coopdevil
  • It's probably a moot point now anyway, as I just got back from my local supermarket and they had the 2021 Exotics 5-pack in stock so now I have an Esprit, a Vantage, and an F-Type Project 7. — Coopdevil

Just saw your Gold Anglia custom - me thinks I'm sensing a trend in your races vs your customs! lol

Looks like I might be in danger of having a car I can send in for this! Lotus Esprit Series 4 V8. Got her up to 49.23g with ballast on the underside of the interior tray. Stripped the paint and painted her matt olive drab with the lights detailed in - I didn't know until Googling it that this era of Esprits used Toyota AE86 rear light clusters.

Next stage is the graphite.

(Mismatched wheels are because I accidentally glued an original wheel to it's axle while gluing into the chassis)

The cars behind that are the fall back option in case this goes horribly wrong.

  • nice! I'm guessing by the color this is an entry for Slytherin? — IndianaDiecastRacing
  • Probably. I don't really know Harry Potter so no idea of the house colours although green would make sense I guess. — Coopdevil

It did go horribly wrong. Remarkably I actually managed to lose the Lotus having placed it "somewhere safe for safe keeping".

So quickly did a TR6 up because it was already green. I added a tonneau cover made from painted cardboard to hide the ballast that's sitting underneath it.
