I think the issue that most are having is not with this site, but where you are selecting to get the direct link from in you photo sharing site.
You have to go to the download/sizes section of your host site to find the right link in most photo hosting sites I have used or gone into.
If you do it from your front page or any earlier - you are only getting the redirect link to the sites compressed "ghost" image they are using.
I also found an even easier photo posting process. Check out the two images I have in the test and practice thread...

You upload pictures the same way you were doing it before with the old site.
You still need to use another site to host your photos for now...like PhotoBucket, Flickr or something quick like Uploads.im
Once you upload your pictures there, use the direct link and use that within your post.
