HW Turbo, Best for Track and FTE's

The_Commish Tuesday, 3/9/2021

Okay so we all know that FTE's are supposed to be the fastest stock wheels, and the fact that they are hard to find but you can find them still on Color Shifters and occasionally on other castings. All well and good.

But what the hell, if any, advantage is there in HW Turbo cars or Best for Track cars?

Is this just hype? False advertising? Obviously the turbo cars don't have turbos because they don't have engines, so what is the point?

Considering that most of the track sets you see on the shelves have some sort of wild, themed fantasy action vs actual competitive racing my guess is those are marketing points and not actual features of the cars.

My understanding is that the Best for Track cars are more lower center of gravity than they are for speed.  If I'm remembering right, I feel like they usually have metal bases.  The Turbo collection is just cars that are available with turbochargers in real life.  They all have the same standard axles.  Unless I'm mistaken, the only models with different axels in  all of HW and MBX are the  FTEs and Color-Shifters.  I'm not sure what the story is with MBX Superfast.  I think the weel material on older Superfasts is different but not the axle and not on newer Superfast models.  I could be wrong though, I'm still trying to figure this stuff out.

I've noticed too that the Best for Track are metal chassis (often plastic body) and often are the low/thin type of castings that *could/should* probably have better performance. So I don't think it's complete marketing BS as you might think but that performance could also be doing loops, jumps, and other things that might not strictly be racing.

So...the BFT cars are probably a good place to start as a donor chassis if nothing else.
