Nissan 300ZX Turbo Laser Wheels
I finally got my hands on the ever elusive Matchbox 300ZX Laser wheels. I've seen them around the web, but at crazy high prices...like the BWF Camaro. Scored this for under $7 shipped to my home. Mint and untouched, but now its out of its package...time to see if it lives up to the hype.
weighs in at 48.5g on my scale. Rolls silky smooth, and dead straight. Track time to follow...

This is the one that couldn't be beat that they were asking everyone to throw something at it. It is a Datsun/Nissan 280zx Turbo, not the 300zx Turbo car.

- yes this one was unbeatable I think the redline sidekick gave it a kick but I had a few laser wheels and had no luck like that — otp1
How is the testing going?
Found the correct 280zx on eBay over $20 with time left...no sale for me.
The car I have is fast, not my fastest, but a top ten performer among stock cars. My champ from the Fords series...beats it by 2 car lengths.
Even if it's not the exact same "legend" car, I think that Laser series is unique in itself...whatever further racing and performance review you can do for the one you have would be awesome to read/see.
I had to look on line everywhere to find a laser wheel 280 so I found a grey one in Germany at a place called cars in boxes was about 17 bucks to buy n ship here wasn't impressed so traded it off guess I should of kept it hard to find but wasn't real fast
These laser wheels are very fast but hands down the JL Black With Flames Camaro will eat these Datsun Turbo Laser Wheels up on our track (Lincoln Johnny Lightning Race Club). The issue with these laser wheels is the spring suspension and the transition of the track. If you have a real sharp transition on your track these laser wheels are not going to bod well at all. The red casting is the Nissan and the black one is the Datsun. To me same car just different colors! Put it to you this way we race hundreds of cars each month and we have yet to see a Laser Wheel win Fastest Car Of The Year in our December Finals. Johnny Lightning Beats Them All!
I recently purchased one of those red Nissan 300ZX Laser Wheels for 12.00. Haven't tested it on the Dragtracks yet but it was NOT a good car for the DCRL East Ridge time trials. Slowed down and fell out of the banked corners a couple times. I think the problem with mine is that the driver's side front wheel has some play in it and sometimes likes to shift back and rub the fender. Might be a good modified candidate for the Anything Under 50g race, since it is already 48g! Just going to have to only do axle work to it I guess.
Also, the Datsun really is a different car, but very similar. I've never owned one of those to compare it to my Nissan that I have here, so I don't know all the differences but they are a whole different car. The Datsun 280ZX Laser Wheels comes in gray or black, I seen something about a red one on the LJLRC website awhile back but never have seen any pictures of one.
Johnny beats them all lol the matchbox disney bus beat them all last yr lol j, k
BOOM!!! Kinda...look what I found in the mailbox today when I got home...not the Laser wheels, but real close. Finally scored one cheap enough for me.

- Good one for MBX Stock at the LJLRC — KandORacing
- That might be the one I forgot to bid on.... — KandORacing
- shipped to my door for about $8 — Traction-Event
I think I have several loose MBs with those wheels...if the "Superfast" all used the same wheel style, that is. I'll have to dig them out and see if any are road-worthy.
I have the green `63 Vette & white Police car w/laser wheels. Both are 'above average' performers but I have a few MBX w/ the earlier "Starburst wheels" that are faster. And you are correct, the Starburst & Laser wheels are similar in design. I think their strength is their ability to roll @ increasingly higher RPMs. My Chevy Pro Stocker demonstrated this in the 2013 RNL series. It was able to beat heavier & more stable cars because it had low friction and a higher RPM tolerance.
Now you see why I want to hold a Matchbox race....... :D
