They're doing it again at Hot Wheels in the $2.97 offerings. This time it is in the new SpongeBob series. The Second Wind, an unlicensed clone of the Mach 5, is a metal body on a metal chassis. Now if only more race hosts would allow fantasy cars to participate more often.

It can be unfortunate, the sense that unlicenced castings so often take a back seat in the hobby especially given that many of those have a higher degree of play value, on orange track anyway. Also-also, yeah, that era of castings where Mattel got crafty to skirt around the paying of trademark fees. Often brings a wry chuckle from me.

Cool that this has a metal base! Didn't notice that aspect recently on the pegs.

Hot Wheels Mach 4 and Mach 6, Johnny Lightning 1969 Indy Car. A good friend of mine knew I was playing with Hot Wheels and handed me a few cars.
