My DeLorean dilemma
I don't know how I feel about this...

Being somewhat of an 80s guy, I have a strong nostalgia connection to the DeLorean. One of the things that made it so awesome was the fact that it was the stainless steel...no paint, no problem.
I was really excited when HW released the first casting of this, as it was more or less true to form. Then they released a black version and even a pee gold version. The black was interesting, the gold was horrible.
And now this.
I'm sure this won't be the last time the DeLorean gets a new paint job, and usually I don't really care how many variants they make of any given casting, but this time...this time...they've gone too far.
Without the trademark steel/metal finish, this just looks like some shotty Toyota import or something. It just looks uncool when painted...generic.
But also of note about this version, is the side windows have the little hand notches cut out, unlike other versions I have which are filled in. Noticed too that the rear "trunk" panel doesn't open anymore.

Good point, nothing a good dip in the paint stripper wouldn't solve. That would actually be more "true" than the silver paint they've used. Might be a mini project for me when I need something offline to do...strip one and detail it, not for racing, just for looks.
This paint job is a throw back to the original blackwall version 1981-1983... all had "bad" paint jobs

Ah ha! Good history lesson there, thanks! Although the Larry Wood version proves my feeling about it looking/feeling like some generic rip-off DeLorean...because it was!

As it turns out, I had found a different red one.
The same fate will befall this unsuspecting little car!!
Update: my idea to cut it and stretch it on a way2fast base bombed. I should have just stripped it. Bummer.
I found some other DeLorean paints while I was going through some bins and they don't all bother me. There's a darker gun-metal grey flavor with a stripe, it's actually pretty sweet. That solid red, while not ideal, is less offensive than the retro tampos...just something about the DeLorean that needs to be plain, even if it's an alternative color.
I bought ONE with the express intent to make it right.
I agree with you.
If I find it in my stash, it just might be next up on the block.
All shiney and chrome...
On the way to Valhalla..
Mad Max Style....
Run little car... Runnnnnnnnnnnn
